Subject: T2 Tourney Report Date: Wed, 10 Dec 1997 21:19:44 EST From: SqueeGobbo To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Here’s a T2 Tourney Report for a Tournament I participated in 12/07/97. I don’t know that I should even write this report, as there were only six people who showed up, including me, but it’s an example of how good a mono- green deck did post-Tempest. (Decklist at Bottom) Six People in the Tournament: Me (Squee) Josh Alexa Jerry Duncan Bradley I didn’t take notes, but, as one sees, I did get all the names. As luck would have it, I’m paired against my best friend, Josh, 1st Round. Josh: Sleight/Knight Game 1: I start quickly, but muscle slivers and rogues can’t stand up to double- crusaded white knights. I get beatdown. Game 2: I pull my meta-game sideboard in. I get a Birds early, and thus am able to Knights of the Mist 2 of Josh’s knights. I beat him down quickly. Game 3: He gets out an early Field of Souls, which hurts because now all his critters come back. I beat him down to 3, but he does the same. I hurricane for 12 for the draw. M: 0-0-1 G: 1-1-1 Round 2: Bradley: Green Weenie Game 1: I get mana-screwed and he beats me down quickly. Game 2: I get mana-screwed AGAIN, and he beats me down quickly AGAIN. Game 3: (Written in Flores/Pikula fashion) I get mana-screwed, he has a ton of critters, it looks like I’m gonna die soon. (So you died?) (No, you see…) I get some blockers… but then he CASTS recycle. But, he HAS NO CARDS IN HIS HAND. He screwed himself over. He has no other drawing tools in play, so he dies very quickly. M: 0-1-1 G: 1-3-1 Round 3: Duncan: Weird Deck (About 200 cards) Game 1: Not much to say… Turn 6 kill. Game 2: Turn 5 kill. Game 3: Turn 5 kill. M: 1-1-1 G: 4-3-1 After 3 rounds of Swiss, the top 4 are: Alexa (1-1 Bradley, 3-0 Duncan, 2-1 Jerry) Jerry (3-0 Duncan, 3-0 Josh, 1-2 Alexa) Me Bradley (1-1 Alexa, 2-1 Me, 1-2 Josh) I face Alexa in the Semis. Alexa: Mono-black Game 1: 2 Dauthi Mercenaries (2B Shadow 2/1 1B: +1/+0) beat me down quickly. Game 2: I pull meta-game SB in, and beat him down quickly. Game 3: I get some creatures, but he vamp. tutors for a perish, then he stupors a sleight out of my hand. Nevertheless, he got a deathgrip out, but it got sleighted harmlessly away. I hurricane for the win. Finals: Jerry WW: Falcon/Armor Game 1: I beat him down quickly, he wraths, a ‘goyf finishes him off. Game 2: I have 2 sleights in hand, a big ‘goyf, and a crazed armodon in play. He attacks with an armored knight of dawn, gives it prot. green, then I sleight that to prot. white. The armor falls off, I block with ‘goyf. Attack with goyf and armodon, and sleight an order to prot. white to get rid of another armor, blow the armodon, growth it, take 8 (he blocked the ‘goyf), so he’s dead. So I win the tourney of six people, get 3 bucks, and get a cursed scroll and a passage. Here’s the decklist: 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Rogue Elephant -- 8 1cc 2 Harvest Wurm 2 Llanowar Druid 4 Muscle Sliver -- 8 2cc 3 Rootwalla -- 3 3cc 3 Crazed Armodon 2 Lhurgoyf -- 5 4cc 4 Giant Growth 3 Hurricane 2 Unyaro Bee Sting 3 Overrun -- 12 Other 2 Cursed Scroll (the tourney-winning deck had none, instead I had 2 forests) 2 Snake Basket -- 4 (2) Artifact 2 Lotus Petal 18 Forest (2 more in original) -- 20 (22) Mana Sources Sideboard: 4 Birds of Paradise 1 City of Brass 1 Gemstone Mine 3 Sleight of Mind 3 Knight of the Mist 3 Chill Hopefully, by next tourney, I’ll have another Cursed Scroll (I still only have one), and there will be more people participating in the next tournament. Any comments would be helpful, especially those that are longer than two or three words (or which I’ve gotten many)… I was thinking of adding 4 vineyards and maybe a mana sink or two more… but I dunno. It would be helpful if someone could come up with a version of that, without changing the basic idea of the deck much. The Sideboard, as one can see, is primarily metagame, as sleight/knight is rampant in my area, but any suggestions for a mono-green sideboard would be appreciated.
