Subject: Another stompy tourney report Date: Mon, 6 Oct 1997 09:21:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Ruth Nestvold To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Since I attended my second Type 2 tourney on Sunday at the BURST 97 in Sindelfingen and both me and the guy I went there with, Chris Belger did real well I thought I´d send you a short report to let you see what the Type2 scene here in Southwest Germany is looking like. There where 42 players of wich 12 or so were playing their tournament. First of all my deck which I managed to go 5-2 with and placed 4th. It’s a version of stompy without hearts and bounties. 5 Mana Elves 4 Rogue Elephants 4 Ghazban (these sucked Big time because like 35% of the field played at least some red) 4 Quirion Elves 4 Spectral bears (the coolest creatures in the deck) 3 River Boas 2 Harves Wurms (these sucked even more than the Ghazbans ) 3 Jorael`s Centaurs 2 Uktabi Orangutang 3 Lhurgoyf 4 Giant Growth 4 Winter Orb (not as good as Ithought they’d be) 18 Forest(2 to many) Sideboard 4 Charms(the Visions ones never used em) 2 Arrows(rocked once) 3 Citys 3 Whirling dervish, 1Centaur, 1Boa, 1uktabi (the most important part of my board often put these in for ghazbans and harves wurms) Round1: A guy named Schwarz never did a single damage to me with (almost ) mono red deck. 2:0 Round2: Brückel from Reutlingen playing B/r . In the first game he kills me with a 20 point torch cause I’m too dumb to atack . Then in the 2nd game he starts really fast with 2 creatures on the 1st turn and a 3rd on the second but luckily I boarded in my arrows and kill three creatures with them after that while I´m at 6 or so life Ican easily kill him. 3rd game he`s totally screwed and kill him fast. 2:0 Games 4:1 matches Round 3 : Michael Bayer also from Reutlingen U/R counter burn. He` s screwed twice (at least he said so) and I’m flooded once so I win 2:1 . I wasn’t too impressed with his deck but he ended up going 6:1 and becoming 3rd. 3:0 Games 6:2 matches Round 4: Chris Belger U/R We both wern`t too happy with this matchup since we both didn`t want to loose and we where talking about a draw but since we knew that now at least one of us would have a chance to win the whole tourney so we played. And I lost because I drew nothing but mana in two games. So Chris was now 4:0 and had a good chance of getting into the top8. 3:1 Games 7:4 matches Round 5: Don`t remember his name only that had a really low DCI number something like 150 000 W/R A really weird Deck Outposts, Icys, burn, diamonds... and Wand of Denial . In any case the last named card killed him in game 2 and 3 after Iwas totally flooded In game 1 where I had drawn more lands than creatures. 4:1 Games 9:5 matches Round6: don´t remember his name either he’s playing mono black burried alive and he’s not the only one there´s like 2 or 3 others playing burried allive. In game one he kicks my ass with 2 Hidden Horrors while I once again draw way too much mana. Game 2 and 3 are both close but I win them with big Lhurgoyfs. I guess I was pretty damn lucky cause he never played a single burried allive. 5:1 Games 11:6 matches Meanwhile Chris has gone 6:0 and is almost 1st for sure(the only one who could have still passed him was me because I would have had a higher opponent score but I didn´t even know) Round7:Holger Meinecke Sligh I know him fairly well and hope I’ll win but he’s number 15 in Germany so I’m not too optimistic. But I win the first game fairly easily with a good draw including Rangers (the perfect anty sligh creatur) and Lhurgoyf , who seales his fate. The second game I made my only real important mistake for the whole tourney not blocking a Ball Lightning while I was at 11 Life and had a 7/8 Lhurgoyf out and then getting double thuderbolted and fireblasted the next turn while he was at 4 life. The 3rd game was a joke you heard of those fourth turn kills, well those storys are true. 5: 2 Games 12:8matches Chris lost his last game to the guy I won against in Round 3 but was still 1st Iended up 4th and won 3 Visions Booster and a ticket for the Süddeutschespielemesse where the next bigger Type2 tournament will be. Here´ s Chris winning Deck that Ihelped him build and that was „ inspired“ by the US Champion Deck 4 Disks 4 FOW 4 Counter 4 Dissipate 4 Man ‘o’ War 2 Abduction 2 Binding Grasp 1 Air Elemental 2 Frentics 3 Wildfire 3 Torch 3 Incinerate 3 Earthquake 3 Glaciers 10 Islands 8 Mountains Sideboard:(not quite sure about this) 3 Pyroclasm 1 Earthquake 2 Miner 2 Abduction 2 Mind Bend 2 Anarchy 2 Phyrexian Furnace 1 Jesters Cap Alex Mack
