Date: Wed, 10 Sep 1997 16:56:58 +0000 From: Roy Keltner Subject: T2 Tourny Report I played in a T2 tourny last night. There was 20+ people in the tourny. I played a counterburn deck. First Match 0-0-0 (0-0) 0 Pts. Against Tim (Playing W/u Armor deck with arcanes. He arcaned about 7 times in the match) First Game: I stop him from getting the combo wityh my 12 DD instant DD spells. And kill him with a Rainbow Efreest+Torch. The thing that really hurt him was that he arcaned 3-4 times this game, and I drew alot of counter+DD. Also whenever I would counter a armor he would kill the creature he was trying to put it on. I let it go, it's his own stupidity. Second Game: Much the same. Arcanes let me gain card advantage. I stop him from getting the combo, and even with 2 COP for both my colors out by turn 4-5 I still win because I disk them away. Second Match 2-0-0 (1-0) 2 Pts. Against Benson? (Playing a All red deck) First Game: I draw 1 Island and 6 Red spells and a Force of Will, he wins with Hammer+DD Second Game: I SB in Blasts, and Dissipates. I get 1 moutain, and alot of blue spells, I topdeck a land and am able to hold off defeat tell a wildfire I should have countered killed me. I didn't counter the wildfire because he was short on land, and I was afraid of the double fireblast. Third Match 2-2-0 (1-1) 2 Pts Don't know name. But he had 4 pts and me only 2 =( (Playing R/B speed weenie with knights, and stuff) First Game: He does the face down 8 stacks thing. I time him, and he only takes 2 min. I then shuffle his deck for 1-2 min. He gets mana screwed, easy victory. Second Game: I shuffle his deck again, he gets mana but My DD kills his creatures and soon a rainbow efreet comes out to play. He can't kill it because of phasing I kill him with rainbow efreet, fireblast, fireblast. Fourth Match: 4-2-0 (2-1) 4 Pts. Nice guy, don't know his name. He needed to win to have a chance at the final 8. (Playing the nemisis of this deck, buried alive). First Game: He buried alives and I didn't notice I had a force of will+counterspell in hand. I die to 3 Horrors. Second Game: I counter his buried alives, and the Dissipates I SBed in helped against his creatures. I really should have had 2 furneces in the sb. I will add them later. Finaly he gets a 1/1 goul out. I block it with rainbow efreet, and I eventualy kill him with bolt, bolt, fireblast, fireblast. Third Game: Much of the same, but he gets out a buried alive when I run out of counters and I die horribly with 2 thunder bolts in my hand =( I learn than 3-4 people with 3-2 records are getting in so I play the last match. Fifth Match: 4-5-0 (2-2) 4 Pts. Friend of the guy I lost to before. Playing Sligh. First Game:I die quickly with no mana+DD Second Game:I am playing and I see a dissipate. What! This isn't suposed to be in here. I look in my SB, and realize that my anti weenie is in my SB, and die after bolting most of his creatures. I could have went to the finals if I had won 1 more match. I might have won the last one, I will never know. BTW I sat around and talked to only the 3rd girl I have ever played MTG against. She was nice. And she had to stay tell 1:30 am because her brother gave the guy that won the tourny a ride (He was the guy I played last). So I played her my dreaded Homarid Spawning Bed Deck. We have fun as we tie 3-4 times in a row because we don't want to kill the other person. Here is my deck 4 Counter Spells 4 Force of Wills 4 Rainbow Efreets 3 Nevinryyals Disk 2 Earthquake 4 Man o' War 4 Incinerates 4 Thunder Bolts 4 Fireblast 2 Torchs 1 Frenertic Efreet 2 Fire Diamonds 2 Sky Diamonds 20 Moutains/Islands Sb: 2 Red Blast (IA) 2 Blue Blast (IA) 4 Dissipate 2 Torchs 1 Reality Ripple 2 Mind Harnesses 2 Dream Tides If I could look back on it. I would take out the Mind Harnesses, and dream tides+ripple for 2 Phrexian Furnece, and more Hydro blasts, or some pyroclasms. Because about everyone played weenie, red, or buried alive. So my sb would be 4 Hydro Blasts 4 Dissipates 4 Pyroclams 1 Disk 2 Torchs Thanks for reading my report.
