Subject: Tourney report-Scunthorpe 01/11/98 Date: Sun, 01 Nov 1998 20:28:15 +0000 From: Mark Whittaker Newsgroups: uk.games.trading-cards.misc Turnout:14 (disappointing,however the field was quite high quality!!) 5 rounds Swiss followed by KO for top 4 the deck:a strange little number,I put it together in about 5 minutes last night thats why it's such a mish-mash,I also put together a ww deck which a friend borrowed 14 swamps 3 polluted mire 3 wasteland 1 phyrexian tower 4 dark ritual 1 persecute 2 duress 1 diabolic edict 2 drain life 1 yawgmoths will 3 cursed scroll 2 carnophage 4 sarcomancy 4 dauthi horror 4 black knight 2 skittering skirge 3 priest of gix 2 knight of stromgald 2 dauthi slayer 2 phyrexian ghoul sb 3 perish 3 planar void 4 bottle gnomes 3 dread of night 2 disks round 1-vs Craig Scott (rec night/living death thang) game 1--all he saw was bops and walls,scroll kicked his butt game 2--my 1st turn,three creatures--game over virtually,he fought back but by that time my scroll was kicking in Match 1-0 Game 2-0 round 2-vs Kev Scott (red burn/critter thang) game 1--early creatures got burn,then out came a Skittering Skirge and scroll to go all the way game 2--1st turn priest/gnome,2nd turn duress(take an incinerate)he eventually took out everything with a quake but I then beat him up with a scroll Match 2-0 Game 4-0 round 3-vs Nicolas Moss-Allison(rec nightmare/living death) game 1--1st turn pog/pog/shadow/sarco he couldn't recover and whinged about picking up too much land game 2--my 1st turn void sealed his fate,his living deaths to kill my creatures kept him alive,so I just drained him Match 3-0 Game 6-0 round 4-vs Ian Henderson (my ww deck) game 1-he didn't get to 4 mana to Wrath so my early creatures (knight and horror) went all the way(i was worried as there were 10 prot black dudes and 2 pariahs) game 2-everythings going fine,I have a horde out he has 2 prot blacks, he goes Light of Day,I curl up and die game 3-1st turn the deck kicks in(3 critters) i waste his drifting meadow,then do the same again,he couldn't get to the magic 4 mana and dies,he shows me his hand 3 x wrath 1 xlight of day Match 4-0 Game 8-1 round 5-vs Chris Thompson (blue deck w/arcane lab + ertai) game 1-1st turn I drop 2 creatures sarco/skirge and deliver a beating game 2-I get a slow start,the game appears to be going his way despite my phyrexian ghoul(top card vs legacy) and yawgmoths will which brought 4 creatures into play,he has a tradewind,stalking stones and licid out and 1 card in hand but hes on 6,i pick up a drain go for it and he shows me his island.....bonus Match 5-0 Game 10-1 Semis-vs Nigel Jefferson (rec nightmare/living death) game 1-I get a fast start hes on 6 then living deaths,I concede due to the extreme beef on his side of the table game 2-an early planar void doesnt help him and he succumbs to various shadowers and the skirge(the scroll helped) game 3-he plays a non basic land,i waste it,then again,he doesn't pick up land for 3 turns....good night Match 6-0 Game 12-1 Final-vs Chris Thompson,offered him a draw which he gratefully accepted(I wanted to go home) in all,very happy with the way the deck played,don't want to play against too many ww with it,but it seems too fast for the recurring nightmare decks to handle(I went 3-0 vs these,voids are awesome)
