I havent been having very good luck latly. For my first rath qualifier in the middle of september I played a mono-blue deck that my friend from irc told me to play cuz I didnt have a deck and the qualifier was tommorow, he said that this was the deck that Nate Heiss(sp?) took second with(and latter won pittsburgh) in colombus the week before with. So i decided to play it even though I had never seen it or tested it. Well it turns out that Walt had gave me the wrong deck. The deck that Nate had took second with was called Turbo Tradewind(now known as mawcor-blue). The deck that Walt gave me was the first version of that deck with rootwater hunters, more control, and 1 Mind Over Matter. I should of realised the deck sucked bye looking at it. BUT I trusted Walt who said it was good and played it. I also convinced my friend to play it. We both ended up going 3-3...that sucked. Well this time i had been testing tons of decks including the real version of Turbo Tradewind which kix ass, a Living Death deck, a standered Longo Burn(gay deck), a kinda cool white weenie but it seemed the disenchants in the deck were cursed, you would only draw them when you were manascrewed(1 land), and a Tradewind awake. I ended up playing the Tradewind Awake. The guy that I was mainly testing aginst played with the Longo Burn and seemed to like it(I cant tell why). Well we get to the qualifier and trade for the cards i need - 2 spike weavers for the board, they ended up getting replaced with 2 propagandas. Register our decks, and realize that no one is there. Total attendence at this thing ended up being like only 55 or something. That makes the odds preety good of making top 8. We start play even though the Head Judge(Mike Donais) isnt there yet, but Mike Gupital is one of the best judges I know off and he ended up running it till Donais got there sometime during or after the first round I think. First Round: Chris something(I forgot almost all of my opponets last names), hes playing Mawcor Blue! I sit down accross from my first round opponet and he notes how he stomped me down in the Urzas Saga prerelease at this very table(3) in the 5th round! Its always nice to get revenge. But Chris is one of the coolest players around so its not like he was being rude bye reminding me of the beatings. Game 1 He gets out a fat drifter and proceeds to beatdown. Thats about all I can say bout this game. Game 2 Side in Treasure Troves cuz they rock. It seems hes in control with me nothing on the board accept 6 lands, no counters in hand and him a hand full of beatings(which I found out later were lands mostly) I topdeck the Trove and play it. He goes and says done, I untap draw, use the trove during my main phase to try and get a counter and it works, I get it and he goes topdecks a steal enchantment plays it and i counter....game over, Treasure Trove is such a beating, Game 3 I get out the the tradewind turn 4 he jacks it with a legacy. I topdeck legacy, play it he bounces it with a tradewind. I topdeck another legacy, he tradewinds one capsizes the other. I topdeck counterspell, play my legacys he bounces both again and I go topdeck a reflecting pool(now I have enough to counter the capsize!) Get my tradwind back and proceed to beat down. Match Record 1-0 Game Record 2-1 Round 2 I play James, hes playing a white weenie splashed with black and red for banish, goblin bombardment(I think it came out of the board) and other stuff. He ended up taking 9th place. Game 1: I get totally mana screwed in this game, I didnt mulligan cuz I had a Wall of Blossems a Reflecter and a forest figured id get a island soon. But it never happened. I played the wall of blossems and thats it, he figured i was playing Living Death but wasnt sure so didnt sideboard at all. Game 2: I get the Tradwind out on turn 4 and he Banishes it(totally unexpected, never even saw a splash land int he first game.)I topdeck a awake and procede to whipser for 5 turns taking 2 a turn( I get down to 6 life) and draw a capsize and start caping shit. And win with a lock. Game 3: Nothing great happens here, I just get him locked down quick cuz he had 2 mox diamonds. Match Record 2-0 Game Record 4-2 Round 3 I play Dan(more on him later) playing sligh Game 1 Turn 1 pup, turn 2 manical rage. Need I say more? Game 2 Wow, he gets a fast start and gets me down to 4 really quick, but hes now capsized locked and has a lonly flunky on the table so its game over. Game 3 More of the same, this time he gets me down to 3(partly cuz i have to take 5 burn cuz i only had 5 untapped when i went to capsize :)... Match Record 3-0 Game Record 6-3 Round 4 Well between rounds me and Jason(Means I think is his last name) were talking about my tradwind awake and his living death and how neither of us hope we have to play eachotehr cuz neither of us had tested aginst the other deck before(I had only 1 game actully). So we get up and look at pairings and what do you know, I have to play Jason. Hes one of the coolest players I know though. Game 1 I counter a early death, but the next 2 deaths and a Recurring nightmare smack me around. Game 2 I get a deicent draw and he manages to survivel for both of his scragnoths but i have a wall of blossems and a spike weaver on the board. I lock him up and he conceids with 10 mins left. Game 3 I get out some quick tradwind lock but cant kill him in time, with 2 mins left and him still at 20 life....but he conceids the match so I can draw into the top 8. Match Record 4-0 Game Record 8-4 Round 5 and 6 Do the Math Take draws. Fist round of the final 8 im playing aginst a mirror match up Opponet Paulo Miro Game 1 We start playing hes real mana screwed and I got a good draw. He topdecks a sideboard card and tells me that he forgot to unsideboard. I tell him that Ill let him just take a game loss and we wont call a judge over cuz hes cool and I dont want him to have to play without his sideboard the rest of the match. He agrees. Game 2 I get out 2 fast hammerhead sharks and put the beatdown on while he sits mana screwed. I feel bad about it cuz hes a real cool guy. Match Record 5-0 Game Record 10-4 Semis I play Dan, the guy I played in round 3 playing Sligh and that made me take burn. Game 1 and 2 he beats me down with a first turn pup, second turn manical rage with me sitting mana screwed both games....That sucked So I end up taking 4th which im happy about cuz I get some urzas saga and shit.
