Subject: Tournament Report-PTQ ROME_Chicago Illinois Date: Mon, 19 Oct 1998 14:49:16 EDT From: Legends26@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Before I begin this, my 1st tournament report, I would like to introduce myself and my teamates. My name is Aaron Estrin, my teamates are Dan Thomas, Ryan Georgous and Ryan "The Reverand" Strand. We have been competing for over a year independently, and have joined together to form Team Fubu. Also, of Team Fubu Junior, is Eddie Anderson. Ok Enough of that, on to the Report! On Friday night I drive to Kenosha, and meet the Reverand and Ryan at the Cyberzone. Me and the Rev Playtest like madmen, while Ryan plays random 8 player Duke Nukem with hordes of people. We find that Ultra Pro Blue(Blue Weenie/control) and Tradewind Awakening are really potent, but Tradewind awakening seems to lose alot to the Ultra Blue. As soon as Dan gets off of work, he arived at cyberzone, and says he will play Land destruction, and we taunt him about it. We decide since the tournament is in Illinois, and about 10 minutes from my house, that We''ll stay there, and test. We test like crazy and We end up with the following 4 decks for the next day, 2 mirror Humble Prayer with Static Orb, Ultra Pro Blue, and Tradewind Awakening. We eat oatmeal cookies then sleep. I get woken up hardcore by my alarm at around 6:30, and we wake up, shower, and get ready. After all is good, we decide to go pick up Eddie, the best 12 year old player anywhere. Eddie already ate so he gets to watch us scarf down gallons of coffee and food while he talks to the waitress :). We are off to the tourny about 7:45. We arrive at the tournament around 8:00 and find 75% of people with some sort of blue in their deck, so I looked at the Reverend and said, "Give me Fubu Tech!" He said, "Really", I responded, "Yeah, it's real good." Of course this is Reverends supersecret janky straight green deck. I record my deck in 3 minutes, and throw a mediocre sideboard together. Round 1 Vs. Some sligh Player I play a turn one vineyard, and 2 second turn muscle slivers, and he plays 3rd turn rathi dragon..Next he Maniacal Rages it... I somehow sustained enough life with my spike feeder, while burning him with Vineyard, and beating him with my spike soldier/slivers to win. Game 2 I get two Vineyards early he can draw only land and 1 CC red creatures. I draw 2 weavers, and 2 trained armodons :) I win easily. Match Record: 2-0,1-0. Round 2 Vs. A Hatred deck Game one: He can't draw anything, except carnophage, and crovax...he doesn't put counters on crovax, and it dies....judges ruling. I sit there and win with hordes of My creatures, while fogging his shaddow beatings. Game 2, he has the hatred, but 2nd turn Feeder gives me game since he only has 2 creatures, one of which I steal with my helm of possession, he takes 14 from spike soldier in one turn..I love elven Rite :) Match Record: 4-0, 2-0. Round 3 Vs. Mark Slapak Game 1: Mark is playing straight blue and wants revenge for getting crushed by me in Iowa City...He asks me to concede when He sees his draw. I answer no sarcasticly, and we joke around for a while..then he gets crushed by triple muscle slivers :). Games 2 and 3 I was one land short of 3rd turn choke, but it never happened, he wins...by the way, The deck played 3 skyshroud Elite, I would have won the whole tournament if I had played Skyshroud Archers..Think about it. Match Record 5-2, 2-1. Round 4 Vs. Brandon Rutter Game one: I get a 1st turn Vineyard, and he never see's a Shard Phoenix, Easy win. Game 2: Scragnoth comes out turn 3, he has to shard bolt it without enough to get the shard back and dies from burn again.(Vineyard was responsible for like 6 game wins) I apologize from to a great player, and a good sport, brandon for his bad draws and go on. Match Record, 7-2, 3-1. Round 5 Vs. Michael Kuta (I beleive thats the Gentlemans name) Game one: He draws only green mana, and gets hammered(He played Recurring Death). Game 2: He lobotomies me after I mulligan, and gets 3 helms of possesion out of my HAND. I am wrecked and lose bad. Game 3: Controversy, it comes down to him being tapped out, with a spike feeder and a Wall of Blossoms, and I've got 2, 2 power creatures out, he says, "Done." I said, ok, and untapped, drew my card, and said, Your spike is Dead, he said, Why? I said there's no counters on it. He agreed and gave me a dirty look, and said game, since he was at 2. I felt like an ass, but knew that this is a professional qualifier and almost everyone there said it was reasonable since that was the stringency of the judges. I win, Match Record:9-3, 4-1. Round 6 Vs. Jim Kirpanos (My arch rival and joking friend playing a dracoplasm deck) I am deck checked while I'm still Fixing my Deck/SB, and get a game loss and no SB use for the Match, because a scragnoth was taken out of my deck and put in my SB. I knew this was bull, because I knew for Sure my opponent was playing heavy blue!!!! Oh well, If I have to lose like that to someone, it might as well be Jim. Game one: I play first and wreck jim badly. Game 2: Jim Grindstones me for 10! Then 6, Then 6! It was really unlucky for me, and the threat of him Reins of Powering Then Playing Dracoplasm was too much..he did it in the end and I lose with him at 2. Match Record 11-5, 4-2. Round 7 Vs. Mr. Lipiniski (Don't Know 1st name) Game one: I played a 1st turn vineyard after I saw a swamp from him, he drops Island Lobotomy, then same again next turn, then twind lock. I am housed. Game 2 I get double Vineyard...I feel bad because he keeps saying how he has a corpse dance in his hand and never plays it..He burns to death...Game 3: Opening draw 3 Vineyard, I win easy. I needed to sweep to have a chance at top 8, since there were a few disqualifications of top seeded players earlier, so.....Final:13-6, 5-2. Dan Thomas made top 8 with the Static Humility Deck, and lost in the quarterfinals to some white weenie thing with tons of controll. The Reverend didnt' play due to lack of funds, and Ryan Georgous went 5-2 also.. an overall strong outing for team Fubu.Below Is a decklist for the green deck, invented by the Reverend Strand. 4x Spike Weaver 4x Wall of Blossoms 4x Spike Feeder 2x Spike Soldier(Thanks to Brian Kowal for pointing it out!!!!!!!!!!) 3x Skyshroud Elite ( IF you Have any Idea about cloning this deck make these things Skyshroud Archers..I think I would have at least made top 2 with this in my deck) 4x Muscle Sliver 4x Trained Armodon 1x Null Brooch 2x Helm of Possession 4x Elven Rite 2x Scragnoth 2x Overrun( I drew it once, and had it in my hand the whole game(All creatures countered :). 4x Eladamri's Vineyard There's the decklist proving green is good...just give it a chance people....it hasn't been shafted at all:) I hope Jamie Wakefield Reads this too.
