Subject: TOURNEMENT: PTQ Indianapolis 10/10/98 Sligh Date: Mon, 12 Oct 1998 19:24:26 PDT From: "Bedford Crenshaw" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com RETRACTION: On my last PTQ tournament report, I said that Robert Dudley was about 10-12 years old. He told me Saturday that he is actually 15 (couldn't believe it). Sorry On with the show. After the last tournament, I studied both the Sligh/Sphere deck and Sutcliffe's Sligh deck from the Dojo. Having come up with a few solutions on my own (i almost had No Quarter in my sideboard), I was ready to compete again. My deck basically consisted of: 4 Jackal Pups 4 Mogg Fanatics 4 Mogg Raider (great vs. Legacys) 4 Fireslinger 4 Mogg Flunkies 1 Rathi Dragon 1 Flowstone Hellion (couldn't find my other Rathi until Sunday night, where I ended up having it w/ me anyways) 4 Shock 4 Sonic Burst 4 Kindle 4 Maniacal Rage (finally found all my Rages) 2 Spellshock 16 Mountain (need to make this 17 or 18) 4 Wasteland My sideboard had Torture Chamber, Hand to Hand, Maze of Shadows, Stone Rains (good vs. counter chicken), Boil, Bottle Gnomes, & Apocalypse (when I opened my new Duelist, and found 2 packs w/ Apocalypse, I took it as a sign). I had a fairly uneventful trip up, until I was ready to go to the IHOP for some Chocalate Chip Pancakes, only to spend 20 minutes before I actually found it when I knew it was on Meridian. After the brain fueling I when around the Center and found a free parking meter. Went inside, passed the big convention that was under way (National Assoc. of College Admissions Counselors). I saw a bunch of Louisville lads there, unfortunately including Ben. After I had already registered my deck, Andy Hicks gave me some advice I could have used BEFORE I deck checked (oh well, there's still Columbus) ROUND 1: Brandon Rutter Counter Chicken I thought he looked familiar. Checking back on my previus tourney report, he played the same deck against me at Muncie and won handily. My first rematch of the day. 1-1 He got out two Allures, but I sacked the Fanatic and shocked the Pup after he got it. My Spellshock won me the first game. 1-2 He got manascrewed, as a single Allure he managed to get was fizzles as I Raidered the Pup he was targeting. My Stone Rain & Wasteland also helped him decide on Turn 5 to go ahead and concede w/ 12 life. All of my match wins today were revenge. 2-0 1-0 I was done early, so I took my earlier purchases to my car, discovered that Circle Centre was only 2 block away, and searched my car for a cap to wear backward ala Chris & Andy. While waiting for next round, Robert Dudley told me his true age, as he saw my report. ROUND 2: Rob Gardner neo-Awakening (U/G/b/r) 2-1 Long match, with him winning in the end with awesome Time Warp/Anarchist recursion. 2-2 Short & Sweet. Burn, baby, BURN. 2-3 The only thing that saved me was that our 70 minute time limit expired. 3-1-1 1-0-1 ROUND 3: Ped Bun Pheonix/Death (B/G/R) 3-1 I almost had him, but he stopped me in time for himself. 3-2 Kept Pheonixing/Living Deathing my two Jackal pups. After his torturing the Pups last tourney, and Pheonixing them this time, I might decide to win a rematch against him by calling the ASPCA ahead of time. 3-3-1 1-1-1 All thoughout the 3rd game, some guy kept asking a judge quite loudly if he could go to the restroom, and being quite desciptive of how badly he needed to go. TMI. ROUND 4: Aaron Huntsman CounterSliver (some things never die) 4-1 He had enough counters to stop me. 4-2 I forgot to sideboard, but I still managed to win. 4-3 I had the goods, but he had COP:RED. Not pretty 4-5-1 1-2-1 ROUND 5: Ted Wallick U/W/B Control I have played this guy twice before on Preston Highway, and he has seriously hurt my DCI Rating both times. Time for vengeness. 5-1 His Humility/Prayer too little, too late. 5-2 My deck just worked. His Orim's Prayer only slowed down my Pup & Flunkie. Wasteland helped too. REVENGE IS SWEET... Decided to drop out, as I couldn't make the top 8 anyways. Had a great turkey dinner at the Turkey place at Circle Centre and went down to Empire back in New Albany, where I witnesses my ex, Sheryl, timing 23 people doing 1 booster draft at once (blind leading the blind???). Played Ted again, and won both times. Quite an eventful day. ****************************************************************** /-----\ * Bedford "Mage Llanic" Crenshaw | | * | @ | * Have you hugged a penguin today? | | * | |______ * E-Mail: | |\_____> * eudyptes@hotmail.com |-------|-----/ * ccrensha@iusmail.ius.indiana.edu URL: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Portal/4900 ******************************************************************* ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
