Subject: ptq tourney report Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 12:48:32 -0500 From: Lilly To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com hi hows it going this is my tourney report for wichita KS i choose to play tradeawake this weekend even though it has a tough match up this counter bird me and 3 of my friends went down to KS from IOWA nick bridges finkle death jeremy wichman finkle death mike lane sligh lee curtis {me} tradeawake first round tony meyer playing sligh 1st game i get a slow start get beat down 2nd game 2nd turn oath is awsome vs sligh 3rd game he gets stuck at 1 land i play walls 4th turn oath of i win nic wins vs mono green jeremy wins vs red black beatdown mike wins vs black rush 1-0 2-1 second round ralf carey counter bird he mulligans then keeps a hand of 2 mountains and i lock him up 2nd game even though he he runs way more counters i win because he was countering all my creatures and i was just countering intuition 2-0 4-1 mike nic and jeremy all win side note mike hasent played magic in lots of months hasnt seen any of the decks so he's doing real well 3rd round shawn houston mono green 1st i get beatdown by musle slivers and spike soliders he helms all my blockers 2nd game see game 1 2-1 4-3 i would never have imagened lossing to mono green but was a pretty good deck nic losses to tradeawake mike losses to u/g not tradeawake more about this deck later jeremy wins vs ? 4th round vs my friend nic bridges finkle death nic isnt very confident about this match up he knows i have deck advantage on him and every tourney we go to he gets knocked out by 1 of his friends 1st i get a good start and lay down the lock 2nd he gets a oath of ghouls down before i can counter and smokes me with assaisn and thrull surgon 3rd game i get real fast lock and nic soon conseeds 3-1 6-4 mike wins vs sligh jeremy wins vs u/green non tradewind that beat mike last round 5th round vs my frind jeremy finkle death jeremy is 4-0 and im 3-1 so i win a tuff and very close first 2 games mike wins vs sligh top 8 1 ? tradeawake the only 5-0 2 tim kilgor ww 3 jim dowell u/g non tradeawake 4 jeremy wichman playing finkle death 5 mike lane playing sligh 6 lee curtis{me} playing tradeawake 7 ? playing mono green 8 ? playing tradeawake top 8 vs u/g non tradeawake 1st game its starts out real slow for us he has more conters than me but runs out when i start to whisper i lay the awakening and start to capsize during his upkeep i have 5 land untapped put in pool in responce to awakeing and go capsize your land he says you only payed 5 so capsize goes away i whisper to keep from burning it really botherd me that i did some thing so stupid but i have the game in control and anouther capsize in had so i remian cool i just drew way to many cards for him to deal with 2nd game i decide not to sideboard because his deck is strange and i feel i have the advantage anyway i draw 2 land and keep it i dont draw any mor land he beats me down with spike soliders and scragnoth ok i decide to board like he is playing tradeawake in come licids scrags and mana leaks its starts out slow for both of us we both have scragnoth in play but i have licid to i get feeder and put counters on scragnoth dominate some other blockers and win with a bigger scrag he was a real cool guy when i say his deck is strange i dont mean its not good as a matter of fact it was very good i asked if i could look though it he let me he even said sorry about the capisize thing i said n/p i would do the same thing 1 over 8 2 over 7 6 over 3 4 over 5 top 4 vs tim kilgore ww tims a cool guy from missouri ive played in a side draft before 1st game i keep a hand of 5 land whisper and counter spell i lay land say go he lays land says go i burn whisper draw land i draw a land play it say go he wastelands a land says go i play a land say go he plays a land and a ww i counter he says go not much happens he plays 2 helms i whisper alot draw more land when we to get stuff in to play finally we to weird creature trades with his helm and my spikes finaly i lok him up with awakening capsize we discuss how dumb that game really was i didnt mind it to much i think if me and ww both spank it for like 100 turns i will win i side in oaths and extra weaver i figure he is sideing in disenchants but between 3 allures 4 oath and 4 awakenings that would be to much for disenchants i was right i play turn 2 allure he disenchants play creatures and waste like 4 of my lands luckly i draw plenty i lock him up with me a t 6 life 4 land and 3 awakenings in play i feel that ww is a very good match up for tradeawake i go over to watch jeremys game vs the undefeated tradeawake kid when i get there the game is evey thing but over jeremy makes some play mistakes but is so far ahead its not funny so its me and jeremy in the finals jeremy cant really go to rome so we split the money i give him all the cards and i get the 1 spot all in all me and my friends did really well nic was 3-2 with he 2 losses to me 1st and the other tradeawake deck jeremy beat in the top 4 mike 5-8th in his first time seeing these cards we had to explain to him how capsize awakeing worked thats how much he was out of it jeremy 2nd me 1st we had a good time and was the frist time i awhile we all got together and go to a tourney now i have to fill out lots of paper work and say up looooots of money to go to rome oh buy the way my deck was just like zvi s ecept i when 3 allure 4 feeders his was vice versa lee curtis Studlee on irc
