Subject: Tulsa Oklahoma qualifier Date: Sat, 3 Oct 1998 01:51:26 EDT From: GLDNPLAYA5@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com This tournament report is late but I have had a whole load of work at school to do and this could definetely wait.Well i had been planning to go to this qualifier in tulsa for sometime and was thinking of all sorts of rath cycle ideas i came up with this weird blue black thing with recurring nighmares and thalakos seers scriveners merfolk looters and tradewinds and junk like that but i gave up on it after i got ripped apart by cataclysms at one of our local tourneys. Prior to this i was playing straight red with alot of giant strengths and rages and i finished second in that tournament then at the grand prix trial for Texas at Game Headquarters and end up playing some modified red thing and go 2-2 in it and i begin to wonder if its the best choice which i still think it is because one of the other people who was playing it Phil Mclaury won the thing with it an almost exact copy of the deck i was playing. I never fully decide on the deck im playing but deep down in my heart i know im playing sligh and i spend the night before the trounament loking on the dojo at all the other rath cycle sligh decks and look at M. Bregolis Sideboard for his sligh deck which he used to qualify and i like it and decide thats what i will use except i use one more jinxed idol and one less spellshock. Here is my decklist : 4 Jackal pups 4 Mogg conscripts 4 Mogg flunkies 4 Mogg fanatics 3 Canyon wildcats 2 Rathi dragons 4 Fireslingers 4 Kindle 4 Shocks 2 Sonic burst 1 Goblin bombarment 4 Maniacal rages 2 Raging Goblins 18 Mountains Sideboard 4 Portcullis 4 Bottlegnomes 2 Jinxed Idol 2 Spellshock 3 Ancient tombs Ok now onto the report it was 6 rounds top 8 around 75 people showed up for this affair and before i start i wanna say boo to anybody who is critical of any of edward fox's events because he runs them smoothly and has the best prize support he charged a little more but i think he has the right to do that and at this event he gave money to the final 4 50 dollars for the 3rd place finishers and 150 to the second and the travel award went to the winner.Ok anyways after that ramble here we go 1st Round : Jeff Fenstermaker playing Survival/Death 1st game: I give early pressure pressure and he stabilizes but i think he made a mistake and i captalized on it and attacked and burnt him out.I put in massive sideboard tech against him 4 cages and my ancient tombs. 2nd game: I get GODZILLA beatings and lose. 3rd game: I go first i go jackal pup second turn flunkie3rd turn cage he has no solution so he dies. 1-0 2nd Round : Tim Danziger playing Trade awakening 1st game : I get him down to one but then his deck wakes up and he gains total control and i concede. I sideboard in jinxed idols and spell shocks. 2nd game : I draw both spell shocks and he has to capsize them back to my hand and this leaves him at 1 but i think he gains total control. then i cast a mogg fanatic and it flies across the table and kills him. 3rd game : Another stressfull game that ends in a topdecked sonic burst from me for a win he had whispers with awakening going and that was probably my last chance to kill him. 2-0 Larry Waller (Red/green sort of like sligh) Game 1 : We tie do to his spellshocks on the table and his seismic assault Game 2 : i I draw my side boarded bottle gnomes and win Game 3 : i draw my bottle gnomes and My Rathi dragon goes all the way. 3-0 Boogie Williams (Trade awakening) Game 1 : He does nasty things with awakening and i call over a judge so i can concede. Game 2: My jinxed Idol wrecks him Game 3: see game 2 4-0 Trey Spillman playing Survival/Death Game 1 : he is mana screwed i think i dont remember i know i beat him quickly. Game 2: same as game 1 5-0 Mike Kienzle (Trade Awakening) He doesnt wanna draw with me so we just play it out we are in anyhow Game 1 : I get locked and concede Game 2 : i win but i dont remember how probably had somehting to do with my sideboard. Game 3 : I get locked and lose 5-1 Im seeded second going into final 8 Jim dowell (White Weenie) Game 1 : i go first turn fanatic with a conscript in my hand i think i was on crack or something he gets priests and we start racing and he end the game at 1 life ugh i dont deserve to win today. Game 2: we start fast again he has a paladin and a warrior enkor on the table and attacks with the paladin only so the enkor can stand back and block but i show skill and topdeck a maniacal rage and come over for some massive amount of damage and i win the race. Game 3: he is mana screwed and i draw rathi and he cant draw any of his circle reds so i win. Boogie Williams (trade awake) Game 1 : here is where it gets insane i get te best draw ever i go second and 3rd trun flunkies maniacal rage both on my 4th turn and then draw another flunky and they crush him. Game 2 : Jinxed idol is good and we have the coolest trading of it ever he keeps control of it and i burn him out. Mike Kienzle (trade awake) Game 1 : I draw 4 flunkies and they do major beating and i maniacal rage his walls. Game 2: i get locked quickly and concede Game 3 : 3 flunkies !!!! I am a damn good player and now everyone thinks im a cheater but i win this game due to my mad flunkie draws he did draw 3 walls this game but i still beat him rather quickly cause he wouldnt block my jackal pups with his walls ?? He was scared i would go into major card disadvantages i guess but anyways im happy 250 dollars richer and i have a spot for Rome. Props: M.bregoli his sideboard was the bomb and it pulled through for me. Me for not making many mistakes and qualifying. Team Oklahoma two of us were in final 8me and Ron Palmantary and Aaron tried to double draw in but couldnt and took 9th. The girl at the Mcdonalds that stole Aarons dollar too bad she didnt dance for us =(. Mogg Flunkies and Jinxed Idols Slops: PT-Rome lets put it this way i need a bigger travel award Flat tires in the rain suck. Mason Peatross- i just decided im bitter about that after seeing Mason Peatross's report for the PTQ in Dallas and his unneeded bashing of Jeremy Baca i played him once and he was a nice guy.Mason you need to grow up. Me for not writing a report earlier ive been too lazy. Jeff Fink Team Oklahoma
