Subject: GP Austin Report Date: Thu, 15 Oct 1998 00:47:45 -0400 From: "New Wave Inc." To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Ok….here’s my tournament report Well, it started off by us missing our flight…YAY!!!! Finally we get on a plane, and I’m seated by some old Irish woman from Boston who absolutely REAKS of vodka. She tells me her name (Ruth) and then says once the plane gets up in the air she won’t talk anymore….she lied. I try to go to sleep listening to Sarah McLachlan, she crawling all over me trying to talk to the guy next to me who for some reason she keeps calling Caesar. Finally I get sick of it…I politely say to David (Doust) “Hey, wanna switch seats with me so I can take care of Dakkon” and he’s all for it. So, we both go to our seat, and he’s immediately grabbed by the drunk old woman. Anyway…the flight ends and David gets up and tells me my life is now at an end. So we get to the hotel…its pretty nice, with the exception of the fact that the shower is a little screwy, and can’t seem to make up its mind as to what temperature it wants to be. What was really interesting though was the fact that EVERYONE in Austin plays Magic. I didn’t have to explain it to anyone….it was great. Friday comes along and I start to see people…first person I’m greeted by is the always friendly Jason Opalka. Then more people come along…(Macey, Rudy, Lan Ho, Aziz, Dave Price…etc) Dakkon and I are walkin around taking in the scenery and generally having a great time. Saturday comes along. Pat Chapin plays with Dakkon a bit, and although he has a rough start, he makes it into second day. Rudy doesn’t, neither does Dave Price, or Dave Bartholow. Aziz makes it just fine…cause I guess he’s cool like dat. Sunday…Aziz ends up doing poorly during second day and drops out…BUT…THE titty mac Tony Tsai makes top 8. After everything is done though…I watch Aziz and the Deadguys draft, and then Dave Price, Aziz and I go hang out with Uncle Herb….who misses Gary Wise very much, he told me so. Ok…so I guess I should talk about Magic. Here’s the top 8: Quarter Finals Darwin Kastle vs Sid Rao Sid lost second game because of a mistake in drawing. Kastle advances into semi-finals Semi Finals Kastle vs GAME LASTED 2 HRS!!!!!! Kastle won, and advanced to finals Finals Kastle vs Krakower Krakower won hehe that’s all I can tell you…cause I didn’t watch it, I had to get the info from Dave Doust. Ok…Props, and Slops Props: To Dave and Stacy for taking a naïve little kid like me under their wing. Gary Wise for being the coolest guy in the world Dave Price for being so entertaining at the pony Aziz….for…well…for being Aziz Rudy for showing Dakkon how to play craps Chris Pikula for being a silly boy, not to mention a busty beatdown Silkypimp and fubarduck for randomly saying hi to me Pat Chapin for helping me entertain Dakkon Slops: David Williams for not being there Gary Wise for not being there Mark LePine for not being there John Chinnock for not being there and most of all KYLE BIGOS FOR NOT BEING THERE!!!!
