Subject: Rath Cycle constructed tourney report: OathAssault Date: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 20:40:47 +0300 From: "Sha'iich Desert Twister" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hya all Once again I waste my time to write a tourney report to the dojo. This time, the tourney was Rath Cycle [new around here!] and 5 proxies were allowed since nobody has exodus. I constructed a nifty little u/r deck based around a lot of creature control, winning using wheenies or seismic assault, w/ or w/o Oath of Scholars. Deck: Combo 3 Seismic Assault 3 Oath of Scholars 3 Ensnaring Bridge [usually thrown away to the...] 2 Mindless Automaton Creature Control 4 Fireslinger 4 Rootwater Hunter 4 Mogg Fanatic 2 Wall of Tears 2 Tradewind Rider Counters 3 Mana Leak 1 Power Sink Lame attempts to fight the metagame 2 Mogg Maniac 1 Null Brooch 1 Whim of Volrath 1 Shattering Pulse And of course, 11 islands and 14 mountains. I knew I was taking a good deck, and I thought the metagame will be lots of counters, and some prot:stuff. I was totally right, and played NONE of the counter decks. Anyway, no highlights in the tourney... Round I : Doodi, playing en-kor, maniac, furnace thingy Game I - He plays a Soltari Priest [Rootwater Hunter] lots of En-Kors [lots of land] and a Shard Phenoix that kills my weenies. So I play a fireslinger, and a tradewind and kill him with the assault+oath combo. Game II - We don't have a lot of time left... I use my SBed mage il-vecs to get rid of 99% of his stuff, then he plays a COP:red. I play a mindless automaton. He disenchant. I start to slowly poke him with my Rootwater Hunters and bounce his stuff until I get my SBed steal enchantment and steal his COP: Red. I've tons of creatures so he concede since he can't win with his kindles or combo. Game III - He get a Paladin en-Vec and he goes all the way... 2-0, 6 points. Yey, I win! Round II : Ofir, lame black deck No strategy here. 5-0, 15 points. I'm realy excited for having 15 points. Round III : Doron, playing a genuine control deck. All three games were the same. Between whispers, treasure troves and silver wyverns, all of my spells get countered [beside the wall of tears] and I get smacked. Ouch. 5-3, 15 points. I knew something would happen. Round IV : Nitzan, playing a f*****g sligh deck. Game I - He plays mountain, I play mountain-fanatic. He shocks fanatic and plays fireslinger, killing all of my teams and destroying my assault with a moxed disenchant. Then he burns me to death, in the good-ol' sligh tradition. Game II - I play mage il-vec. He shocks it, play fireslinger and repeat of game I. Game III - I give him the points for this match so he'll go to finals but we play for fun. Of course I get the combo turn 5 and win on the 8. Now the deck worked. 5-6, 15 points. I'm bitter. Realy bitter. General comments. The mage il vec should be main deck. The mindless automaton is awesome, and the counters are pretty shitty cause I lose them to the oath when the combo starts. Here's the final version of the deck: Combo 3 Mindless Automaton 3 Seismic Assault 3 Oath of Scholars 3 Ensnaring Bridge 12 combo cards; Creature Control 4 Fireslinger 4 Rootwater Hunter 4 Mogg Fanatic 4 Mage il-Vec 3 Bottle Gnomes 3 Tradewind Rider 2 Wall of Tears 24 creatures; Plus 11 islands and 14 mountains. And I haven't forgot to write props and slops!! Props: Tomer, for running the tournament. Daniel, for playing with bounce even w/o MiViLite. Slops: Doron, what happened you haven't won the tourney??????? Nitzan, becauase I hate sligh. Play something else for a change :) -- This message was sent to you be El-ad Amir Better known as Desert Twister Information gem: 3 out of 4 people is 75% of the population.
