Subject: Tourney Report Date: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 16:12:53 EDT From: MagicAndy1@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com "WW DunderGeddon" Well, I cracked, yet again. I played WW at a tourney. The tourney was at Neutral Ground, San Francisco, although it is not in San Francisco (?). It was Type 2 , 5 Rounds of Swiss of 70 minutes each. And the tourney started at like 7:30 PM. Great. Anyway...I expected the decks there to be what did good at Nationals. I was somewhat right, I saw a lot of Oath of Druids decks, some WW, 5C 'Tech decks, and Mono-blue. I didn't see many Sligh though... So anyway, the main deck is similar to Matt Linde's, I replaced the Cataclysms with Geddons, partly because I don't have any Cataclysms and partly because I felt Geddon would be better. I'm glad I went with Geddon, in hindsight. I added 2 Visionaries because they destroy so many things that can hurt WW, Legacy's Allure, Propaganda, Oath of Druids, and Gloom to name a few. The deck: "WW DunderGeddon" 18 Plains 4 Soul Warden 4 White Knight 4 Soltari Priest 4 Soltari Monk 4 Warrior en-Kor 3 Paladin en-Vec 3 Soltari Visionary 4 Tithe 3 Disenchant 1 Aura of Silence 4 Empyrial Armor 4 Armageddon Sideboard: 2 CoP:White 1 Torture Chamber 4 Afterlife 3 Aura of Silence 1 Disenchant 4 Warmth Round 1: Rex Nguyen, Tradewind Stasis. Game 1: He is mana-screwed. I go Soul Warden, White Knight, Emp Armor. Game. Game 2: He is mana screwed. I go Soul Warden, Emp Armor. Game. We play two or three more games for fun, and he is mana screwed in each of those as well. Yikes... :( A nice guy though. M: 1-0 G: 2-0 Round 2: Jasen Dang, Suicide Black. Game 1: I start out fast with a Soul Warden followed by a flury of creatures. I Armor a Priest and begin the beatdown. My Warden keeps me nice and healthy. It is close in the end though, after he Scrolls my White Knight, but the Armored Priest is too much. I side in 3 Auras vs. Gloom. I side out 3 Geddons. Game 2: I again start with a Soul Warden and some other weenie. Then comes the Gloom. Fun. I survive sort of long considering the situation, but Gloom just sucks too much. Game 3: I see a Visionary in my opening hand and smile. As long as he doesn't Ritual out a Gloom, I'm set. I drop a Priest, then the Visionary, then follow up by Armoring the Priest, and summoning a Warrior and a White Knight. Another close one again, as a Black Knight beats me down to 4, but I pull it out. M: 2-0 G: 4-1 I'm feeling pretty good, thinking I'm finally doing good in a tourney. Round 3: Chuck Lancaster, Oath of Druids. Game 1: He drops 2 Propagandas, then Geddons, one turn before my Visionary can start attacking. He then drops the Oath, followed by Spirit of the Night and serves. I side in Afterlifes, Auras, and the 4th Disenchant. Game 2: I paris twice. He drops 3 Propagandas this time, and again Geddons one turn before my Visionary can attack. He does the Oath, Spirit of the Night thing, gets me down to 1, shows me the Mana Leak, to which I concede. He was a really fun and cool opponent though. He sang this little tune whenever he activated the Oath. It's all about the Oath song. :) M: 2-1 G: 4-3 Round 4: Grantley Day, Mono-blue, like Draw-Go, 'cept Spouts instead of Golems. Game 1: I kind of forget this game except for the fact he drops a Spout and protects it for the game. Oh yeah, I was mana-screwed after he Disrupted my Tithe. Ouch. I side in Afterlifes. Game 2: I play first and get a Priest and a Visionary on the board. He taps out to cast a Disk. I Geddon, hoping he doesn't have a land in his hand. He doesn't, and I am able to serve for the win. Game 3: Propagandas and Pendrell Mist slow me down, as well as a few Quicksands. I am able to beat him down to 12 or something, but he eventually drops 2 Spouts for the game. M: 2-2 G: 5-5 He was a really nice guy, and said that whoever won the coin toss in WW vs. control, wins. I agree. You had to get 4 wins to get a prize, so I drop. But I had no regrets, if I had to play WW again, the only thing I'd change would be to add some Wastelands. I Parised like 3-5 times. I didn't make any major playing mistakes. I also picked up some Spanish Mirage, cards, which I can read (sort of). People need to start writing more tourney reports, even if they don't win or get to the semis or whatever. Tourney reports are all about learning and it'd be nice to know what decks and cards don't work, as well as what do. So please write more tourney reports, there is no shame in bombing or whatever. It happens to even the best players. Ok, well anyway, thanx for reading. PLEASE SEND SUGGESTIONS ON THE DECK TO MagicAndy1@aol.com, thanx. "ScrubWithSkillz" MagicAndy1@aol.com
