It was one of "those" nights last night. Recent success with the Secret Force deck have brought me to 4 consecutive finals, and in the last two tournies I playe din I played Burn (type one) and took ninth. and last night at the type two - I played the Brothers Very Grimm!!! The metagame at the shop has been burn, weenies, and tradewinds. Almost no black. Time to dust off the brothers and WREAK HAVOK!!! First game I take on Jeromy, who is a good player, who has better Karma than me. He has wrecked me the last three times we have played. He is playing red green sliver speed burn. This deck beat secret force the last time we played in a tourney. I get mad elim in the first game - and kill everything he puts on the board. I side in 4 terrors. Mad, mad elim comes to play, and he dies with no creatures on the board. Recursive Necrataals with a Sronghold are strong. 1-0 Next round is a guy I had never seen before. He's driven from an hour and a half away - from a relatvely new environment to magic and has a green blue deck with fogs, air elementals, elves, respite, constant mists and scryb sprites. He beat Justin burn boy last round. I get mighty discard, a brothers grimm comes out to play, and I don't forget to pay upkeep even once. He goes all the way. Side in nothing. stupors and drains and fatties oh my., 2-0 - 4-0 games Feeling pretty good. The Brothers Grimm came to Play! Third round against another guy from the far off st albans, of the relatively new play environment. How he got to be two and 2-0 - in middlebury - I have no idea - but it says here he beat Jake - so he must not be a slouch. First turn sacromancy, (him) second turn slayer, third turn carnophage and black knight. I get trucked by black speed. Look though the side - WHAT THE HELLL???? I forgot to put in anything against black? thats not like me...... first turn he plays a sacromancy second turn slayer - and I start to sweat. I know whats coming,. I can feel the vile Hatred in the air. With a man going to the gallows - I can feel with dread certainty that I have lost. third turn - he attacks with both, ritual hate you - game. me with no elim of any kind - Thanks Wizards - what a great game of skill this is. thanks a lot. I scoop and shake hands with him, and even while I am getting beat down in later matches I keep muttering "f----king hatred! I can't beleve that. Is anyone listening? I got hatrreded to death!!" "Wakefield - we hard you the first billion times - let it go." "Hatred. What a bunch of dumbasses Wizards are." "WAKEFIELD!!! Let it go!!!!" the entire store yells!!! friggin Hatred. 2-1 time for a comeback. I take on jake. jake is playing five color green. He gets out a third turn recuring nightmare and every turn he goes like this. Sac the nightmare - return a manowar. bounce your fattie. sac the manowar next turn, manowar your fattie. sac the manowar, tradewind, wall, hate this crappysuckybluebouncedeck. I do not get enough elim and cannot stop him from manowar and tradwinding all my stuff. He has one recuring nightmare in the deck. Did I mention I got hatreded? Friggin A! Hatreded! Second game I get mad elim and wreck him. third game he gets the two gemstone two birds draw. I wasteland wasteland, edict terror his stuff. He starts the fourth turn with one wall of roots on his side of the board. "so you won right?" Holy pikula! No - I lost. 2-2 last round against burn boy Nathan. I tell nathan that I must take out all my frustrations on him, and not to take it personal. He says the same to me. I am holding a drain,a taal and something else when a disk wrecks 2 scalding tongs and a cursed scroll. I am at 13 - I drain myself back up to twenty. He has no cards in hand. So you won right? "Holy Pikula!" He gets hammer rotation going and hammers me into submission. Somedays - God loves you. Sometimes - well, he just doesn't. I win the second. In the third, I have him completly locked up. I blow a disk to get rid of a bunch of crap he has on the table. I play a steel golem. He pays the casting cost on fireblast and kills it. one fireblast gone. He untaps, plays a pup. I untap, kill the pup and think about tapping out for a disk. I have a drain, a taal, a terror and a disk in hand. nathan hs two cards. I am at fourteen. he has two cards in hand. did I mention I got hatreded? I tap out for the disk. Not even burn can kill you when you are at 14 with two cards in hand. He draws, does a little beatdown dance in his chair and plays the card he just drew. Ball lightning, I tell him he is a punk. He fireblasts me twice in response to me giving him crap. boom boom boom - burn is so dumb. sometimes god loves you. Today is *not* one of those days. Did I mention I got Hatreded?
