Subject: Tourney Report Date: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 20:14:52 EDT From: JonPKibble@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Tournament report for Sunday, 6.28.98 at Dragon's Den of Cross County-- Yonkers, New York. Today I attended a Type 2 tournament of about 12 people (13 to be exact I think.) I arrived slightly late but still got to play, because someone had a bye. I played the following deck, a red black deck which still has no official name but I am open to suggestion: 4 Acidic Sliver -- so house 4 Mindwhip Sliver -- I am experimenting with these. they will probably go in favor of something better if I can find something better (thinking about Thrull Surgeon when it becomes t2 legal), but they are decent 4 Shadow Guildmage -- kills X/1's and damages opponent 4 Diabolic Edict -- DUH... very important 4 Stupor --- dump opponent's hand, disk board away. disk is optional for this situation but use it if you need it (nekrataals are awesome with this) 4 Nekrataal -- kill ! kill ! kill ! 4 Mogg Fanatic -- is this guy not THE BOMB? I dealt like 20 points of damage with this guy (read below) 4 Incinerate -- see diabolic edict 4 Nevinyrral's Disk -- it's all about control baby 2 Necratog -- best way to make your opponent pack real quick 1 Volrath's Stronghold -- this card is a house with a big roof. sack the acidic sliver, bring it back, sack it again. bring back 'taals. bring back togs. you get the point. it is annoying against so many decks. 4 Sulfurous Springs 7 Mountain 10 Swamp SB: 4 Pyroblast SB: 3 Shatter SB: 4 Coercion SB: 4 Dread of Night (sideboard definitely needs improvement-- the coercions and blasts were useful, the rest should probably be replaced with better stuff-- any suggestions on deck or sideboard please email me) The tournament was 4 rounds of swiss. Paris Mulligan. I will classify my opponents into two categories, good playa, or scrub. 1st round- Gary (Good Playa) Gary is playing blue/red counter/Bottle Gnomes/Shard Phoenix type of control. Game 1- He counters stuff, counters more stuff, burns some, plays some BG's and whispers a bunch. After awhile I get bored and pack. Game 2- I sideboard in coercion, shatter(he has disks) and pyros. I draw my seven cards and see six land and a ninja(nekrataal.) so I paris, get no land, paris again , no land. Microwave. I take it like a man. his Phyrexian Furnace comes in and annoys me. Later on I coercion him, he is holding a whisper and a land. he loses the whisper and i think i have him. but he draws another and uses it to get so much card advantage and i pack real quick after that. Game 3- he wants to go get a smoke so we flip and i win. Matches 0-1 Games 1-2 (3pts) 2nd round- Harry (SCRUB) Harry is a scrub. He is playing some white deck . 1st game- He is playing stuff and I kill it. third turn blinky with a lotus petal, yay. then he plays a serra. I tell him it is not type 2 legal. Zip. But he buries it and we procede. Mindwhip sliver Bting. He plays a avengng angel, I nekrataal and attack for 2. he plays it again, incinerate, attack. repeat 2 more times. game over. 2nd game- i SB in my dread of nights. this game I see an order of the white shield, and he red wards it. RED WARD? i tell him its not legal but we play anyway. i dont care. he attacks, i attack back. and again. I edict him, and he loses it (pro red and black-- edict! mmm gaseous. .) scoop. 3rd game- i dont remember but he packed real quick Matches 1-1 Games 4-2 (12pts) 3nd round- Michael (Good Playa) Michael is playing something which looks like 5cg. its got no tradewinds i dont think, but there are geddons if my memory serves me well. i didnt see one till 2nd game though. spike feeders, standard 5cg tech and stuff. 1st game- i dont remember exactly but it took a long time. he played a first turn granger and i play first turn shadow. he pokes mine. Microwave. But i recover and kill his stuff with ninjas. Stronghold Bting occurs. game eventually ends, i win. 2nd game- i play a disk he monkeys it. i play another he monkeys it again. he geddons with 2 monkeys out when i have one lone mogg. scoop. 3rd game- first turn i play mogg. he takes severe mogg Bting. I edict his spike feeder, he gains 4, takes some more moggage. I disk, he monkeys it and i incinerate monkey. more mogg Bting. I coercion a geddon and stupor some monkeys. play another mogg and ninja some stuff. more mogg Btings. I play a disk and yay.. he topdecks his 4th monkey. I kill it. Mogg Bting all the way. DIE. Matches 2-1 Games 6-3 (18pts) 4nd round- Carlos (Good Playa) Carlos is running a different 5cg . he has tradewinds and stuff. 1st game- i play shadow guildmage, he plays granger. i shadow the granger. strong. he plays stuff, nekrataal it. more stuff, more ninjas. he kills my stuff, geddons with a bird out, i play more land, and kill the bird. play some more stuff, game over. 2nd game- same as first pretty much 3rd game- dont remember exactly but it was long. near the end he is like thinking for a minute and after he is done thinking he attacks with derelor and jolraels. i double block derelor with ninjas , block jolraels with necratog and pump him. his die. guess he forgot the ninjas are first strong, we all make mistakes i guess. i attack with necratog, pump. next turn, mogg, incinerate times three. scoop. Matches 3-1 Games 9-3 (27pts) I took 2nd place. this other dude with some red green deck took 1st, he had 30 pts (10-2) dont know what exactly I didnt play him. Sorry about a lot of the details being fuzzy I didnt take notes and decided to write the report after I got home. Props- Jim for telling me to play this deck over Turbo Kibble (another cool original creation of mine-- look for it soon) Slops- ???Can I think of any???
