Subject: Tuesday Booster Draft Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 14:31:15 -0400 From: Worcester Centre for Crafts To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hi There guys, Well a smallish turnout for the tuesday night draft with no sign off the guys from Boston for the first time in weeks. The format is Mirage/Stronghold/Exodus at the Dragons Lair this week as the store has run out of tempest temporarily. I draft a steady Red/White deck with a hint of black for a granger guildmage and acidic sliver, I have a few fliers and a bunch of 1/4 creatures as well as a load of life gaining ability. The red has two fowstone hellion and spitting hydra, along with some other support cards. White has some enkor`s, a kor chant, oath of lieges, 2 soul wardens and the white enchantment that gains you life if your below 10. Round 1 I play against a red/green deck, and control most of his creatures with ease, the kor chant which people have been smacking me with the last two weeks comes up great and the game is pretty one sided. Round 2 Brian Lynch (1850ish) playing U/W. The first game is all about Brian`s lack of white mana as a steady stream of creatures fly past his meagre defenses. My decks so good I`m such a good player. 8) Game 2 and Brian hits straight back with a cloudspirit wearing underwear (the excellent Team Sped nickname for Conviction, nice one guys) and then a bay falcon similarly adorned. I cant kill both and he gets it quite easily. Game 3 is timed out to a draw I look at the next card and it`s a mountain.....the one I`ve been waiting for for the flame wave for victory. Good fun spirited game though. The Sam Adams is going down a treat and I`m all ready for round 3. Round three and it`s one of Brians friends whose been out of Magic for a while but he`s 2-0 with straight wins so I`m wary. The game turns out to be very one sided though and I dispose of nearly everything he puts out and the fliers do the rest. 2-0 So 1 round to go and I`m thinking of just heading to the pub as it`s getting late and I have people to meet. I draw eric warren (1850 ish also) one of the best players in the state and as I only have 2 weeks left I decide I have to have one last try at beating him. Game 1 he plays equilibrium, and starts returning my flier and hitting me with his, the game gets ugly fast as I cant keep a creature on the table. Eric asks if i got a disenchant, I say "No I dont think there were any at the table" he agrees as he was drafting next to me. Game 2 no equilibrium and I get the flame wave, Eric loses forests regenerating creatures and the mana diference makes the game 1 sided. Game 3 for the tourney, he gets 2 fliers I get the enkor, he gets the equilibrium early and I cat keep a flier on the table, it`s ugly and fast. Equilibrium is certainly a massive game swinger in this format. Good game and thanks to eric for playing fast so i could get to the pub, and congratulations to him on his 2nd win in a row at the lair. So it was off to the pub for me. Props. The good natured players at the tourney tonight and the manner in which it was run. And to the Barmaid at Rosie`s for once again letting us all stay after hours. Slops, Chris O`Leary`s driving in to the lampost outside the Lair. DOH Stupid Lampost! Later Joules Haigh Team Highlander
