Subject: Dragon Con PTQ Rome Report 9/5 Date: 6 Sep 1998 07:29:59 GMT From: guru418@aol.com (GURU 418) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy well----i didn't do as well as hoped and really came home with a shiny butt since i got waxed but i figured i would give a small report anyway==this was my first big/sanctions tourney and only my 3rd tourney ever so i can't complain but here we go----oh yea---it was Rath Constructed Format I was playing an original black deck based on Culling the Weak/Dark Ritual for quick FAT creatures---everyone liked the deck overall which made me happy and i had some good exspressions from my opponents when i pulled things off Round 1 VS Stan (a distributor that has been playing since Alpha)[playing r/w] Game 1----here i was thinking it was gonna be my day---started nice and i had a Minion of the Wastes (7/7) out around turn 4 and beat him down quickly Game 2--decent length game---i didn't draw fatties and he came back with a Cataclsym that allowed him to beat me down with some shadow Game 3--had him turn 3 with a Hatred until he dropped a Fireslinger and a Golim Bomobardment which saved him and i never drew anything after 1-2-0 Round 2 BYE 3-2-1 (yea ---strange they gave me full points but i wasn't complaining) Round 3--Chad (again with the red/white) Game 1--looked like good opening hand so i kept it but didn't draw any creatures after my first and got beat down ick Game 2---he drops Light of day and i forgot to sideboard in my artifacts (oops) 3-4-1 Round 4--Jason---White Weenie---what i was going to play but it playtested poorly Game 1--i drop a 2nd turn Pit Spawn (YES) but he stops me in my tracks with a 3rd turn Paladin and i never recover Game 2--his opening hand included 3 Light of Day and 3 land---so---4th turn Light of Day said goodbye to me----F 3-6-1 Match 5--James--playing Tradewind/Death---i knew his deck and didn't know what was going to be Game 1---2nd turn Minion of the Wastes (10/10) he die !!!!!!!! Game 2---he drops Mox and an Island first turn and he leaks my speed---beats me down from there Game 3---see game 2 3-8-1 I Drop before last round well---overall it was fun and the strongest decks that i watched were pure blue counter and red/white (and one Hatred deck)----these all played very well and overall the environment was fun---met a lot of cool people and some punks i didn't care to meet too LOL----but overall it was a good experience and i have now learned that i have to be more careful of their sideboard---but the compliments i received on my deck and that it was an original was great----i will post the deck soon----if nothing else---it is just plain fun to play----nothing better than dropping a first or second turn Fattie !!!!!!!!!!!! see ya'll at the next one and i will have to ge back to my fav of Blue===LOL Ralph Dennis aka GURU
