I attended a grey matter tourny, run by Nuteral ground (dam im bad at spelling) here in Jersey. So heres the deal, I hafta choose between PropagandOrb and Donais 5CU (Dam i knew i shoulda done PropOrb), but then i spot a tourney listing: 5C Flagpole. So i thought, ok, seems like a well tuned deck, fun to play (this was 2 hours before the tourney). So i go along collecting the cards i need. I forget that i have lended my friend a tradewind (Only own one) so i figure "hey, they got a ton of cards at these tourneys, i bet they got tradewind." So i arrive as soon as the doors open, and go directly to the dealers, get the only 2 Tradewinds there (dam...) and figure that i hafta make a replacement. Usualy the competition here in Jersey (Actually mostly Yorkers) is fairly even, a handful of weenies, one or two burn, one guy who ALWAYS plays a combo deck (stasis, prosbloom, turbodeath, etc.. only one too) and the "Top 4". The "Top 4" consists of an amazing group of guys, one of which is The Notorious Finkel, the group usualy playing Dojo decks and blue. About 30 ppl showed up and we go 5 rounds. Stupidly, i come prepared for a blue day (THE COLOR DAMIT) so i buy 2 scraggys to replace the tradewinds, and my final version looks like this: 4 Wall of Blossoms 2 Tradewinds 2 Scraggies (BIG mistake, as i was the only blue in the tourney. *sigh*) 3 Armegeddons 3 Chikens (BoPs) 3 ManoWars 3 Sex Monkeys (Hmm.. Thier called sex monkeys and they "break" artifacts.. ;) 1 Whispers 4 Mana Leak 3 Counterspell 1 Distrupt 4 Impulse 3 Legacys Allure 2 Dismiss 5 Island 5 Forest 3 City of Brass 3 Gemstones (Damit, wheres my Pools!!!!!!) 2 Undiscovered 3 Quicksand 1 Wasteland Sideboard: 3 Earthquake 2 Disenchant 1 Armeggedon 3 Chill 1 Uktabi Orangutan 1 Lobotomy 3 Propaganda (Dam this is shitty in this deck) Kik me if i didnt list enouf cards Im terrible with names, sorry!! Round 1: WW with empiriels Game 1: Stalled game for a while. You know, he gets a card, i get a card, he wraths.. (!) and so on. But i drop SCRAGGY!!! Game. Game 2: 2 Legacys allures and a tradewind pretty much wrapped this sucker up for me. 1-0 Round 2 Living death with Land destruction (!) Game 1: He plays a blood pet. I lay an island. He frowns. He lays a swamp. He ChokeSands my island. Repeat 3 Times. Luckily, i had an all mana draw ;) I drop a Scraggy. Game. Game 2: He doesnt know yet that im playing counter. He buries alive. Wow.. Suprised me. I let it through. He tries living death. HAH! I mana leak. Next turn lobotomy. Get his living death. Game Round 3: Dam. If ANY game i shoulda won, it would have been this one. He plays 5 C Cursed Vineyard with tradewinds and sentinils(!) Didnt show for 20 mins. Got a game win. He comes in pissed. Game 1: Green weenie hoard just devastates me as i am mana screwed. Game 2: Him: Forest,Vineyard, go. Me: Island, Propaganda, go. Him: Pool, 2 Vineyards, 2 Scrolls, go (!) Me: Island, a Scraggy, Go. Him: Forest, Sentinal, goes and searches for 3 more. Game. 2-1 Hmm.. Not bad, still can make top 8 i guess. Round 4: INCREDIBLY fast green weenie. Really Great guy too. Game 1: Gets a small soft creature Lock goin with a Granger Guildmage and a Danger Ranger. I lose to a Centaur. Game 2: He gets the lock again. I drop a 1 point earthquake, killin all sept the Boa. I lose to a unblockable unkillable Boa (I has islands out, scrubby move. Well.. Good Game DooOods!! Anyway, i make top 8 but that doesnt matter as only the top 2 go to draft. Props: My oppenents for being such good sports. The tourny for bieng so small. The judge for well, have a well oganized and well run tourny. Slops: My round 3 oppenent for cursing that he lost a match cuz he was late, then drew 2 cards per turn on game 1... JUDGE!!! Me, for making such a scrubby choice on deck type.
