Subject: Flamin' Ice tourney report Part 2 Date: Sun, 19 Apr 1998 17:35:02 EDT From: AdamGHA To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Ok, now that flamin' ice is more tuned and yes it does have a sideboard, I went to a tourney expecting it to do better than before... Here's the deck: 11 island 1 caldera lake 1 undiscovered paradise 8 mountain 3 quicksand 2 reflecting pool 3 whispers of muse 3 incinerate 4 frenetic 1 air elemental 1 capsize 2 manowar 2 earthquake 3 nevinyrall disks 4 counterspell 3 dissipate 4 dismiss 2-3 ophidian (i forget which) 2 wildfire emissary Sideboard: 1X jester's cap (just in case) 4X pyroblast 1X earthquake 2X rebound 3X wastelands( I replace quicksands with these against certain decks, I crippled some people with em, plus volrath's stronghold is scary) 2X shatter 1X steal artifact 1X suq firewalker Ok around 50-some people came today: Game 1: Versus 5CG, mana leaks, tradewind riders, geddons, maros and so on. He gets off with a fast 5/5 maro and im beaten down, only took like 5 minutes:(. Game 2: He gets fast big maro, I keep blocking with frenetics and phasing, while hitting him with ophies, eventually I disk everything away, and im whispering like crazy, and countering everything in sight, I win. Game 3: 5 minutes left before time is called, i beat him down with a manowar, and quake him for the rest just when time is called (whew) Match 2: 5CW deck with scrolls and auras Game 1: He gets the wildfire beatdown, and his shadow guys are quicksanded, he's at 6, I'm at 2, all he has in play is a white knight and I have 2 wildfire's and a frenetic in play plus i have a dismiss in hand, I cant lose, but for some REALLY bizzare reason Instead of just attacking and winning, I capsize his white knight, leaving me tapped out, and attack with everything, he passages a wildfire and it's a draw. (DOH!) Game 2: wasteland hurts him, and he's mana screwed, I run him over. Game 3: He tithe's 4 times and gets out a cursed scroll which does 20 pts. of damage. I should've sided in my shatters... Match 3: Prospbloom nuff said Game 1: I cast disk, he sinks it and goes off, I can't beat this deck, frenetic beatdown against a bloom deck is useless... Game 2: See game 1 Game 3: See game 2: maybe i should stop casting disks on turn 4... Well that's it for the tourney, now if only i hadn't capsized that white knight, then i wouldn't have been paired against the mighty bloom and i might have done better, oh well... Remind me to take capsize out of my deck... Enough of my ramblings -Adam
