This time around, I thought I would try the Donais U5C and see how well it could do. Here;s the deck 4 Ophidian 4 ManOWar 3 SuqAta Firewalker 2 Dissipate 2 Power Sink 4 Counterspell 4 Impulse 3 Frenetic Efreet 4 Incinerate 1 Lightning Blast 2 Fireball 3 Disenchant 1 SCRAGNOTH!!! 1 Lobotomy 1 Diabolic Edict 3 Undiscovered Paradise 3 Gemstone Mine 4 City of Brass 3 Reflecting Pool 9 Island Sideboard: 1 Disenchant 2 Tranquil Domain 4 Hydroblast 3 Pyroblast 3 Propaganda 1 Diabolic Edict A great SB IMHO, with all the elements needed to compliment the deck. I saw Bottomless Pit as a BIG PROBLEM so I included the Tranqils. The Propaganda slows the 5CB rush as well as WW. The Edict is for untouchables and Scragnoths. 7 rds Swiss. top 8 single elimination(best of 3 except for finals, best of 5 there). 60 or so participants. Media Play, Macon, GA I can't remember names, so here we go.... Rd 1. 5CG-Tradewind A difficult opener for me, was prepared fr it though Game 1- I go first, but he opens with a turn 3 tradewind. I LBlast it on my turn, so all is safe for now. He geddons, but I topdeck 2 islands and an undiscovered. I blow his critters away and an Ophidibook nets me 10 cards for the win. SB in: Props, edict don't remember my sides out for the tourney Game 2- He goes first with a bird, I play island. He goes turn 2 undiscovered, taps out for a maro-armor on his bird!! I topdeck an edict and a firewalker kills him. His Tradeiwinds were burned out and his geddons countered. Not good for him Note- I didn't see a Maro or Goyf... must not have drawn them 1-0 2-0 Rd.2 WW similar to Sol Malka's.. EnKors as well Game 1- He goes turn 1 nomad enkor, turn 2 crusade. I go turn 2 DChant the crusade. He drops a SMonk and a Resistance fighter. I fireball them both out. I drop a 'phid, 3 scrolls get countered, Game for me. SB in: DChant, edict, props Game 2- He gets the mana curve going, tapping out with critters every turn until turn 5 when he drops a scroll. He got an early mana flood, but I got a mana-screw. I get my 3rd land on turn 11 at 5 life. He has 2 cards in hand, at least one is a plains. He has 2 SPriests, 2 InfantVeteran, and a WarriorEnKor.. I MOWar a Priest and he attacks with the warrior and the SPriest. I block the warrior. He pumps the Priest twice to put me at 1. He redirects both damage to a tapped priest, so my MOWar is dead. He has 3 critters. He plays the second priest. I die next turn, topdecking a city of ass... Game 3- I go turn 3 Phid, and by that time, he has a Nomad and SPriest. I go turn 4 edict, he throws nomad off of the boat. Then I attack with phid, drawing my other edict(STRONG!!!) I edict after he casts a crusade on his turn. I draw 17 cards with Ophidibook, a Firewalker killing his hopes and him... 2-0 4-1 Rd.3 B/R weenie Game 1-He goes first, turn 1 fanatic, t2 fallen askari, turn 3 Flunkie, I MOWar the Flunkie turn 3. He beats me down to 10 when I MOWar the flunkies again and incinerate his askari. He attacks with flunkie, I gang-rape with 2 MOWar, he sacs fanatic to kill both. I drop a Phid, counter an edict and proceed to draw 6 cards from it. Those 6 proved enough for the kill, as the almighty Scragnoth beats him around. SB in:Props, Hydros, DChant(for scroll/pits) Game 2:He gets mana screwed and I bludgeon him once again with the Scragnoth. I played it on turn 5!!!! and he couldn't kill it. I lobotomy his Edicts away on turn 6, since he only had 1 mana after his gemstone mine blew up. 3-0 6-1 Rd.4 Blue Bounce with Awakening I knew how to play against this one, so I had the advantage. Little did he know I was packing Scraggy in main deck. Game 1- I go first, I go turn 3 Firewalker. He takes a chnce with turn 3 awakening, using a moss diamond. I ping the chicken, impulse 2 times on my upkeep, getting a DChant and a Phid. I awake, draw the SCRAGGY and play it. A small crowd watching me gasps and he goes "Oh SHIT!". I ping him and beat him down. SB in DChant, domains, Pyros Game 2-I go turn 3 frenetic, he gets turn 3 awakening. I attack, he capsizes, I attempt to phase and succeed. I drop another frenetic and protect them as they go all the way. 4-0 8-1 short break and then play commences. Rd.5 U/R Frenetic/Rainbow burn Game 1- I go first, turn 3 Phid. He goes turn 3 frenetic. I go turn 4 frenetic and attack with Ophie for a card.We trade frenetics, he kills Ophie on 4th try with a kindle for 3 after a total of 8 cards drawn by me. He gets a Whispers, but I counter it. I beat him down with 2 Ophidians, drawing with 1 and damaging with the other. SB in Pyros, Hydros Game 2- He drops a turn 4 frenetic, Hydroing my turn 4 frenny. He knocks me to 8, I edict, he attempts to phase but fails. I drop a frenny protected by a Pyro and a Dissipate. Hde doesn't counter, I drop a phid, he pyros, I dissipate, he counters, he counters, I pyro. and I win with a Frenny going all the way as 3 burn attempts fail. 5-0 10-1 Rd.6 Gypsy POX!! My arch-nemesis. I have waited for this.... Game 1- I go first, parising for first time in tourney, He parises 2 times. We do the land go thing for 2 turns, I go turn 3 Ophie, he edicts, he goes turn 3 Pit, I DChant on my upkeep(WHEW!!!) and impulse for another DChant. He drops a scroll, which I DChant next turn, also dropping a firewalker. He drops bottle gnomes,I dissipate it. I ping him to 12 he POXes, I counter. I ping him some more... finally he poxes. I get a frenetic next turn and he dies shortly thereafter SB in DChant, Domains Game 2- He FunCharms me before my turn 1. I chunk MOWar. he makes a pit on turn 3 but I counter it with a sink. I drop an Ophie and never look back, DChanting 2 bridges and Tranqing 2 Pits away. Scraggy nets another kill. 6-0 12-1 Rd.7 Steel Necro We ID into the top 8, but played for fun. I won 2 of 3 6-0-1 12-1-3 I made it into the top 8 as first seed!! Qtrfinals- Guy from Rd 1 Game 1- I go first, making a MOWar for his tradewind on turn 4. I LBlast the Tradewind away and MOW beatdown commences. He kills it when he is at 10. I drop a Firewalker. He edicts it away at 5 life. I fireball him for 5, he counters, I counter. Game. SB same things Game 2- He parises, and makes a turn 3 Maro. I MOWar it. He does it again. I fireball his chicken and danger-ranger away. I edict next turn. I drop a scraggy, he kindles MOWar for 2 and me for 3 in response. He kindles Scraggy next turn. I make an Ophie and he cries as I draw MAD cards. 7-0-1 14-1-3 Semifinals Frozen Fish Game 1- He goes first, making mad critters in first 4 turns. I MOWar a Lord of the Fishies 3 times, countering it after that. He tries to drop a WOrb, but I DChant it in response to the end of his main phase. I burn his critters out and kill him off with a MOWar. SB in Pyros, DChant, Props Game 2- He parises 2 times, i paris once. He drops early madness, I drop 2 Firewalkers. Game. FINALS!!! Same guy from Rd7 Oh great... not HIM again. Game 1- I go first, turn 3 Frenetic. He edicts it away when my phase attempt fails.I MOWar his turn 3 Man of Steel. I DChant it when he plays it again. He tries to make 2 Necros but they are sunk. A Scraggy is dropped on turn 21 and he dies. SB in 1 DCant, Domains, edict Game 2- He gets early discard, I get early Ophie. Phidibook outraces his discard as I easily win. Game 3- He gets more discard, followed by a Man of Steel. I die quickly. Game 4- See game 3 Game 5- More early disdcard. He drops a turn 6 necro which I allow. I counter his drains and burn him out. Game, set, match, tournament I got a box of Stronghold and 200$ in store credit. KICKASS!!! Props- All my opponents- thanks for being good competition. Media Play- for the tournament. and the credit.
