Subject: Tourney Report----- Please post this...Thanx Date: Sun, 05 Apr 1998 11:13:50 -0400 From: peter montague To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Type 2 Report Comin atcha from Fair Oaks Mall, VA Well, its Sunday and I'm on spring break, so its time for the usual Sunday tournament at Another Universe. It's a single elim tourny but I have the power of Stronghold sligh on my side, especilly the Chris Yates special edition Mogg Vader . The competition was pretty usual...some of the better players from this area, but the usual gathering of the "winning impaired" too. I have been working on post ST sligh for awhile and came up with close to this decklist: 2 jackal pup 4 mogg fanatic 3 goblin vandal 3 ironclaw orc 3 mogg flunky 3 suqata lancer 4 ball lightning 2 goblin bombardment 4 shock 4 incinerate 4 kindle 4 fireblast 4 cursed scroll 19 mountain 63 cards (shooting the limit to hell) Round 1: I got a bye...so did almost everyone else Round 2: Chris Massey with elf overrun I think Game 1: I start quick with Mogg Vader, then flunky, then ball lightning...he played an elf and ate it. Game 2: I side nothing...he smacks me with a few elves...I smack him with my "balls", of lightning that is. 2 of those ball things + 2 fireblasts = win Round 3: Somebody??? with G/R god knows what Game 1: He is manascrewed..I beat him like Lennox Lewis vs. Shannon Briggs...pup, orc, ball, ball um...enough yet? Game 2: I think he sided in walls =) Kind of a slow start...got control with scroll vs. elves, lancers, and orcs. He sexmonkied the scroll, I drew another. He eventually died to scroll-burn. Round 3: Ken Russell with his janky ass 4 or 5cWW Game 1: I thought I should get my ass beat. Instead I do the mogg, then flunky, then ball lightning thing and kill him before he gets priest armor going. Game 2: I side in 2 havocs and a wildfire (what a janky sideboard). I then draw 2 havocs in opening hand. Uh oh WW. He disenchants #1, then eats about 4 from #2. We get to a standoff, him having a monkey, a frenetic, a knight and a priest, me with a flunky, 2 fanatics (Vader) and a lancer. I play a bombrdment, then draw a ball lightning and attack with all. He cant stop the ba-roken beatdown by Mogg Vader. Finals Round 4: Nick Doon (hope I spelled that right) Nick is a good bud o' mine who is usually a tough opponent, but today he was, um, off his game. He was with sleigt knight armor which i thought would whoop on me. Not today... Game 1: We each start quick, the crucial mistakes he made were blocking my lancer with a freewind falcon and sleighting his knight for ABSOLUTELY no reason...i fried it in response. With all the prot red gone I smack him with my balls (lightnings) until he dies. Game 2: I am screwed, and he opens quick with a S. monk and a white knight. I burn em and draw scroll. No disenchant for him, and I gain advantage by killing two or three creatures. He gets out a armored falcon, but I play a swarm of flunkies and moggs, then a bombardment. He says "shit!!!" He thinks. Then he geddons. Not the best of plays. I swarm for the win. Finally...haven't won here in a long time. Props: Another Universe for giving a CASH prize Whoever argued with Mike Abbot...it was funny as hell The kid who looked at my mogg vader and asked if it was in stronghold. Slops: The kid playing G/R for calling my deck "stupid", "brainless" and "retarded". Who won scubby???????????? Best Line of The Day: Jordan Chavez walks in an hour late to the tourney and says "Whatever , daylight savings time!!!!" Tip: When playing John Schuler...ask him beforehand if he has any marked cards. Just do it. Chris Montague
