Subject: Hey Frank Date: Thu, 09 Apr 1998 12:51:16 -0400 From: Worcester Centre for Crafts To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Quick Tempest/Stronghold Report, Drafting 2 Tempest and 1 stronghold, I decide to go for W/r as people are handing me good stuff from both colours and end up with a grindstone, loads of shadow (west coast style shadow beatdown) orrims prayer, rolling thunder and a few cops. Round 1 Corey, Corey`s deck was just that little bit too slow, and a turn 4 flowstone shambler with conviction and flickering ward does him over quickly, Game 2 its a shadow creature with the same 2 enchantments. 2-0 Round 2 Ray Karkman Ray also drafted R/W but his was more red and mine more white, game 1 I swarm he gets a defense together and then I thunder him out. Game 2 came the moment of the tournament, I get out grindstone, and everyone knows at the lair that when it comesto milling I`m an expert. I have the creature advantage and I grind him at theend of his go.....2 land. Ah then there must be something good coming up I say, gring you in my go.....fireslinger(i have lots of 1/1s), craven giant.....lightning blast , rolling thunder......aftershock, kindle, ......2 more red cards, followed by a red and a white one. Superb. He smites my flowstone hellion with conviction with a piece of pro top decking but the rest of the grinding demolishes his deck after losing a quarter of it in one go. 2-0 Round 3 Chuck (i havent complained since you took the piss out of me on the Dojo) Schletzbum Game 1 Chuck get lots of pingers out and shard pheonix and ensanring bridge seals it for him. Game 2 I swarm him in seconds. Game 3 I swarm he eventually stops me on 2 life remaining and drops the bridge, he has one card in hand , unfortunately it takes me about 10 turns more to draw the rolling thunder by which time he has dismiss. DOH! and that clinches a very good comeback win for him. Nice to see Chuck listening to people around him and biting his tongue when he would like to complain. Well played Round 4 Adam. Adam is fairly new to draft but a very bright kid and picking it up fast, he`s drafted an excellent red deck and kills me fast game one, Game two I swarm him with soltari priest and another 2/2 shadow with flickering ward red on it. Game 3 he gets mana screwed and I blitz him in seconds with 3 shadows, orrims prayer, and hiddon retreat. Round 5 Mike. Mikes deck was again two slow in developing for mine, and I swarm past with relative ease in both games. so 4-1 again, unfortunately not enough to win this time as Bill Bovenzi makes an excellent 5-0 (very hard to do with the drafters at the Lair) so congratulations too him. Congratulations also too Christoph O'Leary (Teamate on Team Celtic Bretheren our draft team) for his Type 2 ranking getting too 2002 No 14 in the world with a 5-0-1 to get processed. Look out for me and Chris in the 3 man side tournies at New York. Ok, by the way 18 land, 18 creatures and 5 spells/enchantments seems to work particularly well in this format.
