Subject: Regionals Germany Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 14:58:58 +0200 From: "Karsten Andraes" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Karsten Andraes@VBHANNOVER 05/25/98 02:58 PM Hi Frank, this is my report from the regional "last-hope-tounament" in Magdeburg. we went from hannover with 8 teammates and we are ready. brian, swen and christinan played Sliver, but all different. we had one mono-blue, one U5C with disks, andre playing black weenie with necro (so cool!!! first round swamp, dark ritual, sacromancy, sacromancy, sewer rats) thomas playing merfolk with black and myself take the one and only ProsBloom. My deck: 4 Forest 5 Island 5 Swamp 1 Plains 4 Gemstone Mine 4 City of Brass 4 Squatered Resources 4 Cadaverus Bloom 2 Vampiric Tutor 3 Abeyance 4 Mana Leak 2 Prosperity 4 Infernal Contract 4 Meditate 4 Natural Balance 1 Gaeas Blessing 4 Impulse and of course....one drain life. sideboard: 2 elephant grass 4 wall of blossom 3 pyroblast 1 mountain 1 abeyance 2 city of solitude 2 emerald charm i am ready to battle everybody. if i only make no mistakes....lets go on to report: Sorry, i dont remeber the names. 1. mono black him swamp, me swamp, him swamp, me gemstone mine, him swamp, me gemstone mine, resources, natural balance, bloom, contract, meditate, contact etc. i drain him for 40 or so. second game: in this game i make my biggest mistake in the hole tournement. i hope for luck! i have this starting hand: 2 impulse, resources, bloom, balance, contract, forest. all i need was a swamp a island or a rainbow land. needless to say, i draw nothing but forests. he plays a third turn hidden horror and discarded a colossus of sardia(?!?). his next turn he attack for 4 and animate the colossus. attack for 13, attack for 4 - game. :-( third game: i have to mulligan, but my hand was ok. not good, just ok. he cast a second turn horror an discarded the new tempest vampire (discard a card: +2+2 until end of turn). third turn he attack for 4 and animate the vampire. fourth turn he attack for 11 (discarded two cards). fifth turn for seven, game! :-((( in the third turn i had two elephant grass in my hand, 4 lands on the table, but no green mana. such is life. bloom is sometimes strange. 0:1 2. sligh in both games he brings me under 0. but the machine works perfect and who needs life? drain for something like 30 an win. 1:1 3. 5CG yep! not a good matchup. i dont like playing against 5CG, because to much stuff against bloom (charms, disenchant, mana leak, armageddon, winter orb). in the first game i managed to bring a abeyance trough. prosperity for the rest of my liberary and win. second game he sideboarded tough. when i have the combo he cast in responce to my abeyance charms my resources, i leak, he charms and disenchanted my bloom. he had a orb on the table. when i have enough mana i start again without the bloom. i meditate, contact, balance etc. at one point i have only 8 mana left in my pool and no bloom on the table. one bloom was in my graveyard and i have discarded another one to the first bloom. he is under abeyance. i cast impulse. take the first card....land...second card...land...third card bloom. i take the bloom, cast it and a meditate, contract, prosperity for my library and drain him to death. bloom is sometimes strange. 2:1 4. WW with armor and splash in the sideboard nothing to say. the engine goes on in both games. he had no pyro or disenchant. 3:1 5. mono blue merfolk without scrolls (i dont see one) first game is blue beatdown. i have no chance. in the second game i saw nothing from the side bord nor my abeyance or the leak, when he hold only one card i cast resources, but he counter. whenn he plays a tradewind and has three other creatures on the table and i am at 8 life i must start without resources. i lay a bloom he cant counter. i play contract, draw 4(!!!!) lands. i play contract again, draw 4 lands again. no more carddrawers. bloom is sometimes strange. 3:2 6. sligh in the first game i have everything i need on the table. but i have no carddrawer. i am at 4 life, so i must start (he has three scalding tongs out). i cast impule and get land,land,impulse,land. i cast impulse again and get land,land,abeyance, land. i cast the abeyance and draw....a land. bloom is sometimes strange. the second game is a perfect draw for him. he cast first turn scroll, second turn flunky, third turn ball lightning, attack for nine. forth turn ball lightning, attack. i block the flunky, so i am at 5. he play fanatic, shoot! fireblast - game:-( strong draw guy! 3:3 7. sligh in this game i started very early and the engine works. but it was not realy nessasary. he plays only a consecript. second game was the repeat of the first. in this games i dont need the strong draws because his was very bad. bloom is sometimes strange. final 8 was this: 1 black weenie with splashed red for burn *WINNER* 2 5CG 2 Mono Blue (Cueno and Merfolk) 1 Sliver (Go on Christian) 1 Sligh 1 BottleNecro two of my teammates made it. congratulation. Brian goes 4:0 and loses then three duels in a row. sorry brian, no one can win without mana. andre go 5:2 but has a bad matchscore. props: brian for driving christian for not playing red and making final 8 ulf, data and rolf ottovordemgenschenfelde (cool guys and great classic-players) ProsBloom for the possibility to beat erverything everybody i forget here slops: me for my bad english me for hoping for luck in the first duel christian for not playing red (you are the best red player right after price!)
