To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com It was pretty nice to get to go to a Type II tournament after a bit of a lul. Well, anyways I won the tourney at Castle Perilous in Carbondale, IL on SuperBowl Sunday and here's how it went down. I decided on 5c WW as a metagame choice due to the overabundance of red and black that usually show up. This is a 5CWW deck with the addition of slights and all kinds of stuff that is in as a single card to maximize on the surprise factor. Hell, you never know what the hell is gonna come out of the deck. Hard to sideboard against especially when you don't even see all of the colors. The majority of the field was red, black, R/B or B/U with a few unique decks here and there (Terry). THE DECK: COMIN' HOME TO ROOST! 4 White Knight 4 Gemstone Mine 4 Pump Knight 4 Undiscovered 2 Soltari Monk 1 Reflecting Pool 4 Soltari Priest 1 Adarkar Waste 2 ProRED Chickens 1 city of Brass 3 Chicken Armors 8 plains 1 Honorable passage 1 Sex Monkey SIDEBOARD: 1 Giant Growth a card i can't remember 1 Derelor 2 edict 2 Geddons 2 warmth 1 Spirit Link 2 chill 3 Slight of Mind (Chicken Protection) 1 null rod 3 Tithe 1 prismatic lace 2 Man O wars 1 sex monkey 4 Inskinerate 1 aura of silence 1 Kindle 1 serenity 1 Earthquake 2 perish 1 Disenchant 1 light of day 16 people show up and it is announced that there will be 3 rnds of swiss with single elim after that. Round One - vs Nathan ? Straight Black Weenie This is the deck i am designed to Crush. His sideboard is only 14 cards so he gives me game one ( we didn't report it, he added a card and we continued on.) Game 2 - Chicken armored monk - no edict game over. He never saw anything in my sideboard, which will prove big since we play again in the finals. 1-0 Round Two - vs Matthew Martin (Team SubOp) Cursed Sligh exactly Game one he goldfishes me since i draw 5 plains and 1 white card (tithe). Game 2 i get a 3rd turn armored chicken. He'll be dead in 3 turns. He does 16 with heat in 2 turns. Nice draw. He sweeps. 1-1 Round Three vs B.J. ? (from Murray, KY) Black/Blue knight/Wyvern Slight Basically i sweep in 2 games cause he starts off slow with wrong color lands. My 3 slights prove more usefull than all his whims, bends, slights, and capsizes. Chicken armor beatdown, BABY! 2-1 I'll be in the finals, but wait! The judge lets all 16 players into the single elim finals and seats it according to record. ?!??!? So the 3 rnds of swiss was basically just for Scouting. Scouting this deck is tough. Round 1 in single elim vs ?? Red/Black/ with bottlegnomes (Young scrubby kid) I sweep easily. Kid tries to "ritual" out a bottle gnomes turn one by pulling all 3 counters off his gemstone mine. I let him then disenchant it. He,He,He. The Chickens Come Home to Roost, ya'll! Record: 3-1 Round 2 vs. Mathew Martin and Cursed Sligh again Game one 2nd turn chicken, he doesn't use wasteland, then third turn chicken armor. THWAK! THWAK! THWAK! game. Game Two he gets Pups down turn 1 and 2. I lay black knight protect it from heat with a slight. I drop a Warmth. he cringes. I skinerate a pup, then passage a ball lightning. Skinerate an ironclaw. He fireblasts my derelor. I drop a chicken and a priest. Hit him a time or two then quake him and the pup. REVENGE! 4-1 Round 3 vs. B.J. ?? Knight, Wyvern slight again This set is the best of the day. We go 3 and i squeek it out basically he could have won game 2 and the set but lacked the 3rd black mana for a SPITE. This match was ugly - manawar's, slights, whims, capsizes, monkeys, 'taals changing wording everywhere! I squeek by topdecking an edict to kill on of his wyverns. Shadow Chickens provide the punch to end it. He may have beat me if he would have played smarter and edicted after i lay the chicken armor. 5-1 Round 4 vs the only other guy i have already played Nathan Black weenie I know the tourney is mine when i see Nate ease past Terry's Humility/Wisdom/Orim's Prayer Deck. He kills with a couple fireballs and a quake. Anyways game one he's landless even after he mulligans. 2 Knights hit, then he gets a black knight. I man o war it. He cast again, i manawar it again - Game Over. Game Two - third game we've played and still he hasn't seen a slight of mind. He rituals out a turn 2 Gloom, i slight it to black. He rituals out a dread of night on turn 3 to kill my priest. I topdeck a slight and use it on the dread. I drop a monk and he concedes. 6-1 overall and the $30 in store credit is mine. THE CHICKENS ARE COMIN' HOME TO ROOST YA'LL!! PROPS: To my deck for being so damn Metagame and having too many style points. To Terry for that left field white deck of his. To Josh for Overrunning his opponents with mana birds and elves. To the nice turnout. To WotC for making Chicken Armor. SLOPS: To Matt for borrowing my Boil and forgetting to give it back. To the Judge for the messed up tourney structure (again!) To the judge for calling the 45 minute time limit after about 90 mins and giving the match to whoever can deal damage next.
