Tourney Report II for my U/R/W Hammer/Humility deck t2 better known as “The Hummer” (humility, hammer) around my local area. And yes it’s got hopz. Well, I had gotten an overwhelming response to the deck’s first incarnate from top players who read my last report, so, I’ve decided to keep everyone updated on its progress. I played a local tourney here in Fredonia last Tuesday. I changed the deck slightly, to see the old version check my last tourney report. Here’s the new version. the new deck dissipate x2 disrupt x1 counter x4 dismiss x3 impulse x3 whisper x3 wrath of god x2 earthquake x2 hammer x3 incinerate x2 humility x2 disenchant x2 rod of ruin x1 wisdom x4 fire ball x1 scroll rack x1 (this card is SOOO good!) land: quicksand x2 reflecting pool x4 adakar wastes x4 plains x2 gemstone mine x1 (color the pools and emergencies) city of brass x1 islands x5 undiscovered x1 mountains x4 side board: karma x2 pyroblast x4 aura of silence x2 wrath of god x2 mindbend x2 cop red x3 well here’s the report. The tourney was small 18 people but, for a tiny aera we have several good and ranked nobodies (non pro-tour players). (this was non-sanced) Round 1 Vs: Justin B/R. He’s a relatively new player. Knights, incins, disks, guildmages, stupor, fun charm, earthquake, forsaken waste right in. Game 1: This game’s a breeze. I incinerate two early knights and follow up with a humility and rod. His disk never gets off the ground and Wisdoms lock out the burn/wastes. Game 2: In goes mindbends for glooms. Replace two disenchants with auras. Don’t bother with cops, his burn wasn’t that heavy. Exchange two humilities for two karmas, his creatures were all x2, x1, hammers and earthquakes are all I need. He plays first and ritual glooms. I lay an island and mindbend it to black. That’s pretty much all that happens besides him dying to karma. Matches: 1-0-0 Games: 2-0 Round 2 Vs: Chuck Radder Cursed Sligh. Chuck is my housemate and he’s seen my deck a million times. He’s helped me tune it since it was made. He’s just started attending sanctioned tourneys but he’s already built up to a 1750 rating making the finals of everything he’s played in. We decide to play, it’s too early to draw. Game 1: We flip I win. I’ll play. I draw, land, land, land, land, land, grrr, wisdom, wisdom, hmm could go ok. He goes. Land mogg. I go, draw wisdom. Hmm I’ve seen to have hit a clump. He lays an iron claw orc and comes in with the mogg. I draw scroll rack. After this point I rack, wrath, (killing the mogg (well sort of), and orc. Next, I wisdom. He drops two scrolls. I top two chants and before my next turn relieve him of them. I wisdom again, counter another scroll. I show him a 2 more wisdoms and a dissipate, whisper in hand. He concedes. Game 2: In go cops and an aura (scrolls). I incin and quicksand early annoyances. I lay a cop red. I lay an aura. He grumbles. I wisdom. He grumbles louder, grabs my cards from hand. He sees another wisdom and two counters, he picks up his cards. Game over. Matches 2-0-0 Games: 4-0 Round 3 Vs: Joe R. 5cg. Run of the mill everyday 5cg. Game 1: I quicksand an early boa. Dis, a winter orb. I disrupt an aramgeddon. Centaur. I earthquake. I lay the rod of ruin. He tries to monkey it but I counter. I go Humility. He gets hammer/fireballed in the long run. Game 2: I exchange two wisdoms for two wraths. I incinerate his fsecond turn bird seeing as he’s land screwed. I drop the rod a few turns later. He’s still at one land with a guildmage and ranger down. They get quaked away. He concedes after I show him 4 counters in hand. Matches 3-0-0 Games: 6-0 Round 4 Vs: Brian Terpening (he’s also 3-0) Weird ass green, black , red. I don’t know what the hell is in this deck still. It had elephants, tranq. groves straight in, elves, q. rangers, centaurs , uktabi orangs, striped bears, that green gain 8 life card, edicts, terror, corpse dance and forsaken wastes, and blessings, goblin bombardment (one I think). Game 1: I wrath his creatures away. He lays a scragnoth. I sigh and quake for 4. He goes and corpse dances it and I let him hit me with it. OK. I humility. He casts a worb. I dismiss. He lays the tranq. grove. I can’t pull the chant out and lose the hum. . \/\/. I counter the dance (annoying thing). I start whispering. Grab an impulse. Grab a disenchant. Make him lose the grove and drop another hum. He tries for another grove. Not this time. I go and lay the rod. He tries to orang. I dissipate it (no dancing monkeys). He gets hammered to death. Game 2: I sb in 2 auras and a wrath. out go a disrupt (he’s got mostly creatures), and 2 wisdoms. and He plays land, elf. I go land….He goes land elf. Me land. He goes land, he casts the gain 8. I say ok. I go land. He goes, gains 8. I go and quake for 1. Bye elves. He goes, plays a land. Hmm ok. I go and hold with a dismiss. He goes. Bears, I dismiss. Draw a whisper. I go and sit. He goes and plays only a land. I whisper. He only lays a land for the next 5 turns. Hmm, ok whatever. I start the hammer action. He finally draws something besides land but it’s too late. I fireball him for 15 in the end. Matches: 4-0 Games: 8-0 Final Swiss Round, Round 5 vs Andy Pagano (he’s 4-0) (1800+ t2 rating) U/B/R, Andy is my teammate. We always split prizes. We decide to play anyway seeing as we’re both gauranteed top 4 and it’s not sanctioned. He’s playing a U/B/R/w good stuff deck, with discard, charms and stupors. Water spout, 4 counters, 2 disrupts, 3 disenchants, 2 shadowmages, 2 edict, 2 terror, 1 capsize, ophies, manowars, frenetics, incinerate. Fun stuff. Game 1: He gets an early color screw drawing only a gemstone mine (as his only non blue) which is quickly depleted. I start to take control. He concedes. Game 2:Neither of us SB, we don’t care. I get fun charmed first turn. Then charmed again second. Stupored third. I guess you can tell I drew no counters. And he lays a waterspout. He defends it with two counters. I go down, to the spout. Game 3: We side. I toss in 4 pyros, and I assume he did as well. As well as a hydro or two. I disrupt a first turn charm. I counter a third turn stupor, and pyro blast a spout on the 4th. I lay a hum and protect it with a counter. I wisdom. Wisdom again. Hammer him and quake him for the kill. Matches:5-0 Games: 10-1 not bad Final Four: Me at the top u/r/w pagano b/u/r brian g/b Chuck Radder mono red, scroll Semi-Finals: me vs chuck andy vs brian I shut down Mr. Radder in an almost repeat fashion. Andy beats down brian. Andy and I split the prize (tempest packs)and don’t play. My final record. matches 6-0 games 12-1 not bad, the deck is now 22-3 in tourney play. Wheeee! Honold style. I’m pleased with my deck. It’s gotten the stamp of approval from a Donais, and Lauer, so we’ll see if it continues to do well. Later. Just one last word. People have been asking why the rack w/o a way to shuffle. Well you don’t need to shuffle to make this card work. Impulsing and whispering does the job just fine to get past blocks of ugly cards. The rack is always keeping my counters in hand, the way it is. I couldn’t see not using it in the deck. Worst case scenario it’s a glorified impulse, but this has never happened. If you have any comments or questions about the deck email me at amen0930@fredonia.edu good luck to those who said they’re trying the deck out at tourneys.
