Subject: I Love You Flash (But we only have 17 hours to save the Earth) Date: Mon, 22 Dec 1997 10:14:10 +0100 From: Matt Williams Morning all! (Well, it IS for me!) Ok, crappy title for this deck but there were so many puns I could've used I thought I would go for one of the cheesiest lines in a film ever. T2, as we have all noticed, is still pretty diverse. Saying that however, Sligh and Big Blue seem to be making their presence felt more and more. Of course, that's a rely pity because they are probably the two most boring decks to play with and against. The one thing I have noticed with almost every current T2 deck (with the exception of Big Blue and ProspBloom) is the use of small creatures. B/R Beatdown is uses all the Knights and Lancers etc. White Weenie uses, well, we all know what WW uses and mono-green (Stompy) uses nothing BUT weenies. Everyone has been raving about some of the new Enchantments in Tempest but I've gone back to one of the rather forgotten ones of Weatherlight and built a deck around it that, so far, has hosed most the current T2 strategies (with the exception of Big-Blue which I have yet to play). So, without further ado, here it is: Name: I Love You Flash (But we only have 17 hours to save the Earth) 4 Quicksand 6 Plains 13 Mountain 3 Disenchant 3 Wildfire Emissary 4 Enlightened Tutor 4 Incinerate 3 Zhalfirin Crusader 2 Sandstone Warrior 1 Rathi Dragon/Shivan Dragon/Orgg 4 Freewind Falcon 3 Ironclaw Orcs 3 Kindle 2 Flowstone Giant 2 Fireblast 1 Earthquake 4 AEther Flash SB: 2 Light of Day SB: 4 Boil SB: 2 Circle of Protection: Black SB: 1 Disenchant SB: 2 Circle of Protection: Red SB: 4 Warmth Yup! AEther Flash. Sligh can't handle it at all. And with the heavy anti-red SB, even if you lose the first game you can pretty much ensure bagging the 2nd and 3rd without a problem. Necrotog decks CAN be a problem if you let them keep the 'Tog out as, obviously, they don't mind their graveyard being fed. Stompy? Well, an early AEther Flash can hurt (stops those damned Rangers and Elves) although generally, they will get them out before you get the Flash so just be patient. Generally you'll be able to get control of the board with the burn and the critters. White Weenie: not a hope in hell. Honorable Passages might cause you some trouble but I honestly wouldn't worry too much. Big Blue: Unknown as yet although, as with most other decks, it will more than likely give it problems. Side out the Flashes for Boils and just go for a Sligh-like approach. A quick note on the creature mix. You'll notice that, with the exception of the Ironclaws, everything can survive the Flash although they ARE Incinerbait. It's a real pity the Storm Shaman left the basic set, he would've been perfect in here. If the critters don't get burned they are some of the better 3cc and 4cc creatures around. The pumping ability of the FlowStone Giant is actually a lot better than it looks. Oh, bringing in a Zhalfirin Crusader when you have an AEther Flash out is just plain rude. Almost a white Nekrataal..... Anyhoo, so far, the Flash has stalled almost every deck I've played against and has been the primary reason for me winning the matches. I've a feeling it could make a distinct impact on the environment. Then again, I thought my Zur's Weirding was so different it would win loads of games..... Comments, as always, welcome. Matt
