Subject: Feldon's Prosperity Date: Sun, 21 Dec 1997 23:12:30 -0600 From: C & S Stoddard This deck is a variant on the ProsBloom deck. Instead of hitting my opponent with a huge Drain Life, my startegy is to run my opponent out of cards with Squandered Resources/Cadavorous Bloom powered Prosperities, while recycling whats left of my graveyard and library with Feldon's Cane. In theory though I should only need to remove 30 or so cards from the game with the Bloom to deck my opponent The Canes are merely a safety valve. This deck's major flaw is I must allow my opponent to get into a draw phase before he looses and give him a chance to play instants during his upkeep, leaving me vulnerable to Incinerate and Fireblasts etc. Also during this time, using Memory Lapse against on of these spells would wipe out all my hard work, so I'am considering Power Sink or (GASP) SpellBlast instead. I'am also considering Gea's Blessing for my recycle card instead of Feldon's Cane This deck of course still suffers from the same problems as a standard Bloom deck in that any card that keeps me from putting the combos together is going to kill the whole deck. Although it is less suspetable here because the only cards I won't be recycling is the Canes themselves, so only Disspate's are a real danger. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I managed to get away on saturday and give Feldon's Prosperity a try. First I found 4 canes to be too many, I think I could make it run with 1, but I'm going to use 2 main deck, just in case, and I replaced the other two with 2 Mystical Tutor. And at Stuart Kahler's suggestion I replaced the 4 Dark Ritual's with 4 Lotus Petals, primarily because I always had Black mana, but had to scramble for Blue. When playing the deck I had to be careful about what I removed from the game with the Bloom and what I put into the graveyard to be recylced, generaly I wanted to play the Natural Balances, the Prosperity's and the Feldon's Canes, almost everything else can go away. In one game I was playing a guy with a 100 card deck, so late in the cycle I had to power my Prosperity with Squandered Resources and Natural Balance rather than with the Bloom. In play I found the deck to be about as successful as a regular ProBloom deck, which means, if my opponent didn't know what I was doing, I generaly won, but if my opponent recognized the deck type, I had a harder time. Although one guy held his counter spell waiting for the Drain Life, which never came. I found this deck to be easier to play than the standard Bloom/Drain version, first because I needed one less card for the combo, but also I didn't have to take life hits from Infernal Contract. Where this deck really Bloomed was in multiplayer games, where deck development was slow and everyone was more worried about the guy who just put out his 4th weenie. It was worth the trip just see everyones face when I ran 3 people out of cards at the same time.
