Subject: Re: How to break the T2 Metagame (long strategy) Date: 2 Dec 1997 11:01:00 -0500 From: castroto@ece.rutgers.edu (Fabrizio Castrotorres) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy While I agree that red and blue are the strongest right now the deck you described is marogeddon which is a scaled down version of 5CG, which is in the metagame. I do believe you are correct in your assesment that landkill is an answer to the metagame, specially and foremost against blue. However your deck might prove a little slow against red at least for the first game, but in my experience if you manage to get the CoP:Red out you are in good shape unless they emerald charm the CoP:Red. You need something that can outrace red and contain them fast enought until your CoP:Red / Armageddon comes. You also need something that can deal against blue by outracing it and by dealing with propaganda. I believe a stronger answer will be white winnie using the soltari priest (2/1 shadow/protection from red) and empirial armor. I tried at a recent tourney and it did fairly well (5-1) In this winnie-oriented standard environment you need winnies as well. A lot of decks are becoming 5CX , 5 color anything, using red for removal, which you will see more often than Dark banishings or Nekrataals in this environment (Because of light of Day). It tries to deal with one of the better type 2 decks the new counter-burn (hammer, frenetics, disks, earthquakes) The Armaggeddon should take care of blue. If a propaganda comes out you can always armor one of your guys and pay the 2 mana for him to attack or at least disenchant/disk it away. here's the deck: 4 soltari priest 4 freewind falcon 4 Order of the white shield 4 white knight 4 knight of dawn 1 Spirit Mirror :21 creatures 4 Armageddon 2 Wrath of God 1 Nevyrral's Disk 2 Gerrard's Wisdom 2 Afterlife 2 Pacifism 3 Empiryal Armor 1 Debt of Loyalty : 19 Spells 2 Disenchant 19 plains 2 Quicksand 2 Wasteland : 23 lands :63 cards Sideboard: 4 Light of Day 4 CoP: Red 3 Winter Orb 3 CoP: Green 1 Disenchant
