From: belfrazz@aol.com (Belfrazz) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy Subject: Abeyance/Control/Burn deck for critique... Date: 4 Aug 1997 21:52:57 GMT For the past month or so, i've been playtesting this weird deck.... It started out as a flux-heat type deck. Then, i added white for control (and more importantly the Abeyance)... So, now it's some bizarre control deck that happens to win a hell of a lot if you know how to play it. Before I go any furthur, here it is... R/W/U Control/Burn/Kill dek... - 4 Abeyance - 4 Incinerate - 4 Thunderbolt - 4 Mystical Tutor - 3 Bossium Strip - 3 Relearn - 2 Disenchant - 2 Swords to Plowshares - 2 Diminishing Returns - 2 Gerrard's Wisdom - 2 Flux - 2 Fireball - 1 Counterspell - 4 Mindstone - 4 Gemstone Mine - 4 City of Brass - 4 Mountain - 5 Island - 4 Plains sideboard: - 3 Wrath of God - 2 Gerrard's Wisdom - 2 Pyroblast - 2 Hydroblast - 2 Disenchant - 2 Swords to Plowshares - 2 Force of Will It's a really solid deck (doesn't look like it much)... The basic idea is to maintain control with the Abeyance/Relearn/Strip combo thing. Shouldn't strip it unless it's nescessary for you to maintain control... Get out a heck of a lot of land, then burn them to all hell... Flux out the cards you don't care for, returns, or tutor for a returns. With 6 card drawing elements in this deck (_not_ including the 4 tutors to get any of them), it will most always run smoothly (about one in ten games it will fail, or the key card will get countered)... Oh, yeah, and I _do_ hate the untouchables... but they seem to be forgotten around here. It's weaknesses are Sligh (before sideboarding), or deks heavy on counters (although I usually pull it off because they can't counter all the DD)... I suppose I'm hoping that someone will show me a way to make this deck more solid. Also, there have been a lack of a combination of _good_ _and_ _origional_ deks hanging around on this group lately. This deck is _very_ slow... and I often returns 4 times during the couse of a single game, just to get all that DD (I know it's not much, but 10 burn + all the recursion really hurts)... all well, kill it, praise it, copy it... well, don't copy it... for all i know, i'm the only one who's playing any dek of this sort in my area. But, like one of my friends said, "that deck is all about Abeyance, the rest are just utilities." I suppose he's right. l8tr - Belfrazz@aol.i.hate.this.server.but.it's.the.only.local.access.number.i.can.afford.com
