Subject: US Deck: Turbo Genius Date: Thu, 01 Oct 1998 09:52:33 PDT From: "Chris Starr" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Just before US came out I had been toying around with a Mind Over Matter/Prosperity/Mana Vault combo. The deck was starting to come together when I realized that the main draw engine is about to go out w/the Mirage block. I was about to shelve the idea but I decided to wait for the Pre-Release and see what the set had in it. To my great suprise the set had an incredible replacement for Prosperity, Stroke of Genius!! Two other cards made great improvements, Tolarian Academy and Show and Tell. Here is the deck: 4 Mind Over Matter 4 Stroke of Genius 4 Show and Tell 4 Whispers of the Muse 4 Propaganda 4 Mana Vault 4 Sapphire Medallion 4 Counterspell 3 Sift 3 Meditate 2 Memory Crystal 2 Capsize 2 Intuition 1 Feldon's Cane 3 Tolarian Academy 3 Sylvenite Temple 14 Island It is really a powerful combo. You get lots of your fairly easy to cast artifacts into play and add the Tolarian Academy. The MoM can get in easily and uncounterable when you Show and Tell, and most people will let the Show and Tell through because they can put down something cool too. Then it is a matter of casting Stroke of Genius by discarding all the cards in your hand to untap the Academy or Mana Vault (it is a good backup in case you have no Academy) and create a massive Stroke. Hopefully in these cards you'll see another Stroke and off you go again. Rember to get artifacts into play to make the Academy big and save that two blue for a counter. When you have sufficien cards in hand and a Stroke toss all of it to hit him for something like 200 cards! Whispers, when you have cost lowering artifacts in play can be used like Stroke of Genius to get to that Stroke to kill him. Capsize is in to get rid of pesky permanents and Propaganda slows that creature rush. The rest is the best search spells I could find in type two, of which there are very few, and convient artifacts. With 11 artifacts you should be able to use the Academy fairly efficiently. I left a spackle of countermagic in the deck to stop those early hosers or their trying to meddle with your Strokes. It can go for the kill on turn three but much more predictably on turn four or five. The trouble is finding all the cards. Type two is running fairly dry on good search spells when Mirage moves out. have fun and enjoy. Please send and comments, suggestions, and ideas to Starrch@Hotmail.com. Thats all folks! ~Chronos ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
