Subject: A revision to the Green Smoke deck. Snake basket ain't type two. Sorry 'bout that. Date: Wed, 30 Sep 1998 21:10:29 -0700 From: nruttan@nanaimo.ark.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hello Dojo-ers When I first looked over the Urzas Saga Spoiler, I wasn't that impressed. I mean, not suicidal, but not preaching how it was a migic set, sent from heaven. But, one card caught my eye: Veild Serpent! The awesome power of a island home, sleeping enchantment, cycling creature was just too much for me to handle. I fainted, fell against my computer, and spilled my coffee all over my hard drive, which subsequently short circuted and caught on fire. It was several days before I would get another look the Urza's Saga spoiler. But when I did, I noticed a card that caught my attention, and held it with whispy, intangable fingertips. The card: Smokestack. Smokestack [R] 4 Artifact During your upkeep, you may put a soot counter on Smokestack. During each player's upkeep, that player sacrifices a permanent for each soot counter on Smokestack. Illus. Scott Kirschner (309/350) Being a green fanatic, I promptly drew up a deck that worked around smokestack. It works something like this: Make a billion tokens, and while your opponent flounders, smak him around a bit with a verdant force. 4 Gea's Craddles 4 Elemandri's Vineyard 17 Forests 4 harrows 4 Lanowar Elves 4 Quirion Rangers 4 Argothan Elders 4 Smokestacks 3 Verdant Force 4 Survival Of The Fitests 4 Snake Baskets 4 Instill Energies 4 Priest of Titanias Ok, now, about the deck. It goes for FAST elf mana. Really Fast! Turn 1: Forest, Llanowar Trun 2: Craddle, Quirion Ranger, *tap forest, return, untap Llanowar for 2 mana* Priest of Titania, *Tap Craddle* instill energy, Force Trnu 3: *Tap Craddle For Six! Forest + tap, tap llanowar, Tap Preist, use quirion ranger, tap priest, use instill, tap priest, that's 20 mana!* find something to do with that. Just get out some fungus tokens or little vipers and cast your smokestacks! It will eat through their permenents like candy, and you can get rid of it at any upkeep. Yes, I'd use 4 gea's cradles. What you want is one in your opening hand. In a multiplayer game, with forces and sporlings and elders out, a cradle can make hundreds of mana. Which is good. Mabye rolling thunder would... naah. Obviously this deck is far from polished, and it needs a bit of defence and library manipulation. So, If you want to rant and rave, just e-mail me at nruttan@nanaimo.ark.com.
