Subject: R/G Land Destruction w. Raze Date: Sat, 26 Sep 1998 00:19:08 EDT From: Evan969@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com [Please put this where you'll put the rest of the new ideas for U.S. Decks] I was glancing through the card rumors on mtgnews, and overall, it looks pretty lame. However, I didn't think it looked all that bad. One card that really grabbed my attention was Raze. I think anything that lets you destroy any land for R is going to cause trouble. In a land destruction deck, you are mainly trying to gain the land advantage, right? So let's say you have 3 lands out, and your opponent has 1, on the third turn (because you already wasted one). You can then Raze him, bringing the land count to 2-0. I think this is more of an advantage, being that they just went from little land resources to none. In addition, Cartographer, a card from exodus would work *extremely* well in combination with raze. Here is a deck I designed to work with this concept: 4 Birds of Paradise (turn 2 land kill - multicolored mana) 2 Llanowar Elves (fast mana) 4 Wall of Blossoms (slows down fast creatures - grants cards) 4 Cartographer (return lands that you sac to raze, or discard to diamond) 2 Winter's Grasp (kill land) 4 Eladamri's Vineyard (fast mana - turn 2 land d, etc.) 2 Spike Weaver (stall if needed - medium creature) 2 Spike Feeder (gain life/chump block/whatever) 4 Stone Rain (kill land) 4 Raze (kill land - works well in conjunction with cartographer) 4 Shock (removal) 3 Fireball (take out swarm - kill card in later game) 2 Mox Diamond 4 Karplusan Forest 2 Reflecting Pool 9 Forest 4 Mountain I haven't really thought about sideboard yet...but it should be pretty easy to figure out, depending on the area.
