Subject: Rath Cycle Technology Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 00:51:24 EDT From: Lemke412@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com After just missing qualification for Rome in Gp Boston (on the count of a single mistake v.s. Randy Bueler) and losing to my teammate in the top 8 of a different qualifier, I began to get a little frustrated in Rath cycle format. I became determined to invent some new "technology" and win a qualifier with a surprise deck type. So with a little testing and the knowledge that I would need a deck that can beat Trade/Awake and Death every round, I came up with the following deck. Recently, this deck was played in the Syracuse qualifier by two of my teamates. It placed 1st and third and lost only 6 games the entire day. I wish I could have played it but I had SAT's. :-( Anyway here is the list. This deck beats death and trade/awake very easily. Please keep an open mind too while looking at the decklist and making changes because we have most probebly tested this deck more than you. La-Lemk.Dec 4 jackel pup 4 mogg fanatic 3 fireslinger 4 mogg flunky 4 craven giant 4 lightning elemental 4 shock 3 kindle 3 sonic burst 4 stone rain 1 flowstone flood 4 ancient tomb 4 wasteland 14 mountain ( i know this seems low, but it works!?) Sideboard- 4 portcullis 4 boil 4 bottle gnomes 3 torture chamber When playing v.s. death, I have found that one of the best things to do rather than slow down their mana development with land D, is to attack their black mana. This is not always the right thing to do but if you can keep them to only one black mana, then there is no way they can stop turn 2 craven, turn 3 lightning elemental. The surprise factor of boil crushes mono blue, trade/awake, and counter pheonix I'm kold, Adam Lemke -Team Sped
