Subject: Deck (Type 2 - "W/U Controled Destruction") Date: Fri, 16 Oct 1998 21:40:28 -0800 From: jt@servcom.com (JT Tucker) To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com JT Tucker Chugiak, Alaska Tournament type: Type 2 Deck Name: White/Blue Controled Destruction Here is a little something I cooked up. I was really angry because I was always loosing to the techdecks, white wennie/cataclsm, and tradewind decks. I figured that the key to these winning rath cycle decks is through cretures or through creatures with the help from enchantments (survival of the fittest, recurring nightmare, oath of druids, etc). Since MVLITE is going out soon and the new type 2 is going to be rath cycle with fifth edition and Urza's Saga, I figured that the same principles are going to hang around. I built this deck in a futal attempt to combat all the power decks out there. It has worked against many of them so far, but I don't believe I have tested it enough to be totally successful, but its close enough. Lets get down to business, here is the deck: Blue: Forbid x4 Counterspell x4 Power Sink x2 Dismiss x2 Progaganda x3 Legacy's Allure x3 Silver Wyvern x2 Ertai, Wizard Adept x1 Capsize x3 Whispers of the Muse x1 White: Wrath of God x2 Disenchant x4 Cataclysm x3 Soltari Crusader x2 Lands: 15 Islands 9 Plains Well there it is. Some people shun me for using Cataclysm in a control deck, but you will see why they are in there further down. Explanations: Forbids, Counterspells, Power Sinks, and Dismisses - Counter magic. Gotta have it in a control deck with blue in it. They are in there for any big bad spells that may come your way (Recurring Nightmare, Tradewind Rider, Cataclysm, etc.) Progagandas, Legacy's Allures, Wrath of Gods - Like your creatures? Too bad. These cards are here smack creature decks around. I find that the propagandas and legacy's Allures are good against Suicide Black, while the Wrath of Gods are great against white wennie and Techdecks. Cataclysm - (slowly becoming my favorite card.) Use it early in a game to whoop up on control decks' mana. I find it also can slow a techdeck down to a crawl (sometimes even slower than that if they don't draw land) if you use it early or when they have about 5 lands out. Ertai, Wizard Adept - Counterspell on a stick. It helps combat Arcane Laboratory decks, and is an uncounterable counterspell. All around nice card. (don't forget that it is a legend, so don't play yours if your opponent has one in play, I've done it before...) Silver Wyverns and Soltari Crusaders - sorry to say, they are the kill cards... I need to find other ways, but this is the best way I could think of besides Cursed Scrolls. Disenchants - Gotta have 4 in this enviroment if you are playing white. All those crazy enchantments and artifacts, you gotta have some urban protection (little humor implied there...very little) Capsize - another beautiful card, but be careful, people like to make them fizzle. Make sure what you target is going to stay still long enough. Mox Diamonds are fun to Capsize, so are lands (especially with propagandas). Whispers of the Muse - Use it to draw lots of cards to pitch to your forbids, or to get those lovely cataclsms. Well, thats about it. It is an overall good deck.
