Subject: [Deck] Broken Bridge Date: Fri, 4 Sep 1998 11:05:02 -0400 From: "Mike Musatow" To: It's all about Peace of Mind. I will say now that this deck is still undergoing development, but it's pretty good. Especially after boarding. Chances are you can easily win the first one from an inexperienced player who doesn't know what to counter or disenchant and then board to win the second. The sideboard is essential. It's not elegant or trendy, but the right tool for the right job. Broken Bridge 4x Peace of Mind 4x Ensnaring Bridge 4x Cursed Scroll (could be Tongs) 4x Null Brooch 4x Aura of Silence 4x Wrath of God 4x Argivian Find 4x Enlightened Tutor 4x Tithe 4x Mind Stone 20x Plains SB: 3x CoP:Black 3x CoP:Red 2x Sacred Ground 2x CoP:White 2x CoP:Green 2x CoP:Blue 1x CoP:Artifact General Analysis Peace of Mind is the key card here. That is the one that will keep you alive and keep your Ensnaring Bridge in working order. If you think the Null Brooch is going to be enough to empty your hand and keep you going, you are wrong. Strangely, the Null Brooch is what inspires the most fear from opponents and is usually the subject of a disenchant or counterspell. I guess they fear that which they do not understand. Most of the time, by the time you get the Null Brooch into play, it's practically over. I digress. Peace of Mind and Ensnaring Bridge are the components of a fast soft lock. Add Null Brooch and Cursed Scroll for the death knell. General Play Tips If you've got loose mana and a Tithe, use it. Play your cards as soon as you can. Suck those Counters and Disenchants out early. You can always Tutor and Find new stuff and your opponent will not be able to keep up. Typical play is Plains, Tithe or Scroll, Plains, Mindstone, Plains, Wrath or Peace of Mind or Ensnaring Bridge. The Mana I consider Broken Bridge mana intensive. You need 6 to lock-up with Peace of Mind/Bridge/Scroll/Brooch. So we've got 28 mana sources. Artifact mana was added to help speed things up (duh). The Mind Stones were selected over other artifact mana since they can be dumped for a draw later in the game. Even though it helped empty my hand, Mox Diamond didn't work, only because you need a lot of mana not just a quick 2 or 3. Mox Diamond ends up slowing you down. Felwar can't be sac'ed. Manakin is a creature. Etc. Comments on Individual Cards Wrath of God is essential. I tried Pacifism, since it was an Enchantment, but if you lose your Bridge a creature buildup will kill you damn fast. Aura of Silence is an enchantment and has Find/Tutor synergism. The Finds and Tutors offer HUGE manipulation potential. I'm not going to explain all of the synergism. Think about it. Your Enemies Armageddon, Cataclysm, Nevinyrral's Disk, Draw-Go, Counterhammer (yes, counterhammer!) Potential Variations Splash Green for City of Solitude. Splash Blue for 4 Mana Leaks and Hydroblast SB. Disenchants added to SB. Hope you win a few, Grasshopper "You can buy better, but you can't pay more."
