Subject: TE/ST/EX -Decks to Beat Date: Thu, 02 Jul 1998 07:28:38 PDT From: "Andrews Mochulsky" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com To be prepared for the future of Type II, you have to realize that the environment is basically out there, with the exception of the wild card known as Urza's Saga (which, if it continues down the same path as Stronghold and Exodus, will suck eggs). That is why I have, for many months, been playing Tse-Tse (my way of saying Te/St/Ex, in honor of the fly) as my predominant field of expertise, with the obvious dabblings in Standard. The following are a group of decks that I find to be not only wicked killer, but quite unexpected in such a limited format. But enough with the pleasantries. -------------------------------------------------- THE BOVINUS MANSEED TRIBE'S TE/ST/EX DECKS TO BEAT -------------------------------------------------- _____________ Counter-zilla 1 Staunch Defenders 1 Verdant Force 1 Rootbreaker Wurm 1 Minion of the Wastes 1 Phyrexian Hulk 1 Benthic Behemoth 4 Wall of Blossoms 4 Bottle Gnomes 4 Living Death 4 Rampant Growth 4 Survival of the Fittest 3 AEther Tide 4 Mana Leak 3 Power Sink 4 Pine Barrens 4 Reflecting Pool 4 Skyshroud Forest 2 Rootwater Depths 5 Forest 4 Island 1 Swamp NOTES: This deck is probably the most Blast Hardcheese piece of funk that I have ever used. The true wickedness of this deck is the fact that I can keep myself alive with much authority whilst I set up the fatties in the grave. Also, the control aspect really adds a sort-of beatstick attitude to it. And no, we don't play the garden variety Counterspell. That would be gay. __________ SlighBeatz 4 Jackal Pup 4 Mogg Fanatic 4 Raging Goblin 4 Mogg Flunkies 4 Canyon Wildcat 4 Shock 4 Kindle 3 Fireslinger 2 Shattering Pulse 1 Seismic Assault 4 Scalding Tongs 1 Fanning the Flames 17 Mountain 4 Wasteland NOTES: Probably the fastest (in addition to most reliable) of the prototypes of Sligh, I have had relatively good experiences with this deck. The only real problem I find with this SOB is the absolute lack of defense against Life'tech. ___________________ Rathi Globetrotters (note to those who are stupid: this is not a cheap pun on the fact that the Harlem Globetrotters are black. It's just that this deck almost always wins game one in this environment.) 4 Sarcomancy 4 Carnophage 4 Blood Pet 4 Lab Rats 4 Dauthi Slayer 4 Dauthi Horror 4 Foul Imp 4 Bottle Gnomes 4 Diabolic Edict 2 Dark Banishing 3 Brush with Death 16 Swamp 3 Volrath's Stronghold NOTES: Faster than the infamous monorail ("Can it outrun the Flash?" "Yes it can!" "Can Superman outrun the Flash?" "Uhh... sure!"), this deck is pure wickedness. Many people argue that the Bottle Gnomes serve no purpose in this deck. I argue that they are ignorant pukes who need to get off my back. Not that I'm bitter... ____________ Land-ho'tech 4 Eladamri's Vineyard 2 Overgrowth 4 Harrow 4 Mulch 3 Rampant Growth 4 Wall of Blossoms 4 Skyshroud Ranger 3 Wood Elves 4 Verdant Touch 3 Nature's Revolt 2 Reclaim 2 Overrun 1 Elvish Fury 17 Forest 3 Wasteland NOTES: Who says Green can't be good in TE/ST/EX? I've found this deck in particular to be quite effective (granted, it can't take much in the way of speed, but nobody's perfect) in addition to fun. With the lack of good mass basic land destruction, this deck could flourish in the environment. FEAR THE LAND-HO'TECH!!! _____________ W/r Hellstorm 4 Soul Warden 4 Nomads en-Kor 2 Soltari Foot Soldier 4 Soltari Priest 4 Warrior en-Kor 3 Paladin en-Vec 2 Change of Heart 3 Smite 3 Disenchant 4 Shock 4 Kindle 4 Mox Diamond 12 Plains 4 Scabland 2 Reflecting Pool 1 Mountain NOTES: Reliable in the sense that it doesn't bottom out like the W/x decks I've played before, this deck is very much a threat to the major archtypes in TE/ST/EX (like Sped Black and Sligh). And as for Capsize, we've got Pegasus Stampede SB'tech. Boo-yah! Fighting for our lives, THE BOVINUS MANSEED TRIBE compiled by Andrews J.
