Subject: [DECK] Survival of the Nightmares Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 11:44:53 +0200 (METDST) From: dirk.herzog@sap-ag.de (Dirk Herzog) To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Yesterday I had a strange idea: Recurring Nighmare seems to be the card to abuse all those nice 187 creatures until you cannot look any further. And Survival of the Fittest is the best way to get the creatures you need into the graveyard. Elves and Birds help you cast lots of Nightmares and the rest is easy. So here is my deck: The Engine 4 Recurring Nightmare 4 Survival of the Fittest The 187s 2 Nekrataal 2 Uktabi Orangutan 2 Cloudchaser Eagle 3 Wall of Blossoms The beatdown 2 Verdant Force (produce nice creatures to sac for the Nightmare) 1 Commander Greven il-Vec 1 Sliver Queen Defending the Nightmares 4 Null Brooch 3 Reclaim 3 Gaea's Blessing 3 Demonic Tutor Mana 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Undiscovered Paradise 7 Swamp 9 Forest 62 Cards Sideboard: 2 Staunch Defenders (against fire and suicide black) 2 Ravenous Baboons 2 Scragnoth (Counterspells can be very hard to overcome) 2 Man'O'War (replace Nekrataal against Black decks) 7 places left The idea is to drop a first turn mana critter, second turn Survival, put a Force into graveyard, third turn Recurring Nightmare and the show begins. Once a Verdant Force is out you should have enough creatures to sac and if you sac a 187 for another one you can get him out of the graveyard next time again. It's interesting to see that normal instant speed enchantment removal doesn't help against Recurring Nightmare since it returns to hand at the announcement of the effect so only a counterspell can help (you don't use it as an enchantment, more as a sorcery with buyback). The Kastle card (a 187 creature that destroys lands when coming into play) would fit the deck perfectly but we won't see all those cards together in type II too soon. Any ideas are really appreciated Dirk Herzog (dirk.herzog@sap-ag.de)
