Subject: [DECK] Mind Over Matter Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 20:37:01 -0300 From: Carlos Eduardo Scheidegger To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hello folks. Well, looking at the Exodus spoiler, I had this one thought that I think everyone with two working brain cells had too: "MIND OVER MATTER IS BAROKEN!" Ok, it is VERY hard to cast. But what is blue about if not stalling the game until accumulating enough mana to start doing anything? After you cast it, there's an infinity of things you can do with it. Infinite Stasis Lock, Infinite Damage, Infinite Cards & Damage (multiple Curiosities - once the engine starts, you'll get to them quite fast) So, we have four cards so far: Mind Over Matter Stasis Suq'ata Firewalker Curiosity I'd like to add a paragraph on Curiosity. Unlike any other creature enchantments, this one rarely nets you card disadvantage when the creature gets killed. If the enchantment activates once, it's a cantrip that does nothing. If it activates twice, it's starting to get good. More than that and it's just too cool. Idea coming: first turn Spindrift, second curiosity. Also, it's prudent to add some intuitions to make sure you'll find the cards quick enough. Two more cards and we come to the main core: Mind Over Matter Stasis Suq'ata Firewalker Curiosity Spindrift Drake Intuition Here something cool happens. The deck has turned into a very modal one. You can win basically through three ways: -Wait them to tap out (or help them :), play stasis and lock the game; -Get the Curious Firewalker Combo; -Kill them regularly with Spindrifts and Firewalkers (I truly believe it is going to happen a lot more often than it should, because when I play a curiosity on them I'll start getting much more cards) As we're playing blue, why not add some counters? Forbid should work fine, but four is probably too much. Counterspell and Dismiss are obvious choices. (maybe I swap dismiss for power sinks so that I get them tapped out). Forbid Dismiss Counterspell I added some mana sources and a feldon's cane to help avoid decking myself, and got this initial draft (VERY primitive, though, needs much tuning): 18 Island 4 Svyelunite Temple 4 Sky Diamond 4 Counterspell 3 Forbid 4 Dismiss 3 Stasis 3 Intuition 4 Mind Over Matter 4 Suq'Ata Firewalker 4 Spindrift Drake 4 Curiosity 1 Feldon's Cane For the Sideboard, I would go Some Chills, although I think that with 4 Firewalkers main, this deck should do pretty well against sligh and SRB. Propaganda for Black Suicide, because Soltari Visionary will be STAPLE in WW. I loved fade away against WW, but not sure about going with them or not. Phyrexian Furnace, no brainer (Living Death rules :) Anyway, I wanted some private or posted-to-the-list feedback, PLEASE. Thank you, Carlos Eduardo Scheidegger carlos.scheidegger@pro.via-rs.com.br
