Subject: Mono Green LD (Exodus) Date: Fri, 12 Jun 1998 13:08:45 -0400 From: Mike Hanna To: "'fkusumot@ix.netcom.com'" [DECK] [EXODUS] After reading all of the anti-green sentiments that always follow the release of a new set, I thought I would try to construct a mono-green deck that might be competitive...I'm writing this at work so I haven't tested this yet. Quick Mana: 4 Eladamri's Vineyard 4 Wild Growth (instead of elves to prevent shock / incinerate) Defense: 4 Wall of Roots (and more mana) 4 Wall of Blossoms 3 Spike Weaver (1 mana + remove +1/+1 counter for Fog effect) 3 Spike Feeder Land Destruction: 4 Winter's Grasp 4 Creeping Mold 3 Desert Twister Recursion: 3 Gaea's Blessing 3 Stampeding Wildebeests Kill: 2 Hurricane Land: 15 Forest 4 Wasteland or Quicksand The basic theme is land destruction. Use the vineyards to power your spells, and hopefully deal some damage to your opponent. The Wildebeests work great with every other creature in the deck...create a card engine with Wall of Blossoms; a life gain engine with Spike Feeder; a Fog engine with Spike Weaver; or a mana engine with Wall of Roots. With 8 walls and 6 spikes (life gain and fog) you can slow down most creature based attacks. Use the Gaea's early for a cantrip, then later to recurse spikes, land destruction, or hurricanes. Swapping Natural Spring for the Hurricanes is a possibility also. I'm not sure what would be better main deck, wastelands or quicksands...but i'm leaning toward quicksands since a quick creature rush (especially shadow) is going to hurt. The quicksands can always be sided out for wastelands. Not sure about a sideboard. With 15 forests there's about an 88% chance of drawing a forest in the opening hand. Please email me with any thoughts or suggestions...I would love to see mono-green become tournament worthy!!! Mike Hanna mhanna@etcny.com
