Subject: Some abusable cards in EXODUS (deck) Date: Sat, 06 Jun 1998 15:47:40 GMT From: jpaxman@NOSPAMtartarus.uwa.edu.au (Jonathan Paxman) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy OK, since Australia was one of the first in line for the Exodus prerelease, I thought I'd post some comments on the set following the Perth tournament. The obvious call straight away is (for the first time) genuine reusable counterspells. People are already talking about Forbid and Ertai. The worst of the lot however may be the following: NULL BROOCH Artifact 4 2T, discard hand:counter target nooncreature spell This card is simply incredible in many speed decks. I recently speculated on which of the existing deck archetypes would survive the loss of MirVlite, and came up with "Gypsy Pox". Null Brooch fits perfectly into Gypsy Pox, since the player has NO cards in hand very early in the game. Null Brooch is a perfect companion to Ensnaring Bridge. These two cards in combination are an almost lock. Exodus is full of cards which work well with Null Brooch. Oath of Scholars and Keeper of the mind allow the player to keep a card advantage by drawing heavily every turn. Forbid provides an extra way to reduce hand size and keep the counter lock, Ertai is just plain GOOD. With all the nonbasic hosers out there, who needs more than one colour when theres BLUE (Black/Blue is another possibility if you want to mix Gypsy Pox ideas with the above cards). Here is a strong mono blue deck based on the Exodus power blue, designed for the T2 environment after the loss of MirVlite. I believe a variation of this deck (possibly including some black) will be THE deck to beat. "Counter Machine" 4 Forbid 4 Counterspell 4 Keeper of the Mind 3 Oath of Scholars 2 Ertai 2 Capsize 2 Portent (replaces impulse) 4 Cursed Scroll 4 Null Brooch 3 Ensnaring Bridge 3 Bottle Gnomes 2 Nevinnyrral's Disk 16 Island 4 Svyelunite Temple 4 Wasteland Sideboard: 2 Chill 2 Hydroblast 3 Insight 2 Portent 2 Capsize 1 Bottle Gnomes 1 Ensnaring Bridge 2 Nevinnyrral's Disk ========== ------------------------------------------------ Jonathan Paxman jpaxman@NOSPAMtartarus.uwa.edu.au Fighting spam: delete NOSPAM from my address to mail me ------------------------------------------------
