Subject: Deck for Deck Workshop Date: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 13:08:59 -0700 From: Kevin Williams To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com ***4CR BRIDGE*** This is a deck a recently created. Unlike most red decks, this is a control deck, not some Sligh variant. It exploits Ensnaring Bridge to shut down most decks and achieves board control before finishing off the opponent. The deck is actually straight red with a four color sideboard which also gives you the mental atvantage by catching your opponent off guard. The current version of the deck consists of: Artifacts 4 Bottle Gnomes 4 Ensnaring Bridge 4 Mox Diamond 3 Nevinyrral's Disk Red 4 Incinerate 4 Kindle 4 Mogg Fanatics 3 Seismic Assault 4 Shock 2 Sonic Burst 4 Stone Rain Land 4 City of Brass 2 Gemstone Mine 10 Mountain 4 Wasteland Sideboard 3 Disenchant 3 Mana Leak 4 Pyroblast 3 Sleight of Mind 2 Tranquility This deck has evolved a lot through playtesting. The Stone Rains may seem out of place, but they are a great control card. I love playing a third turn Stone Rain on my opponents City of Brass when his other land is a Reflecting Pool. Another tech choice I made was the Sonic Bursts. I have heard how inferior they are when compared to Fireblast, but when I am trying to keep my hand as small as possible, the Bursts are a welcome addition. When playing the deck, you want use the cards in your hand sparingly until you can drop a Bridge. Save the burn for creature control and press the attack with your Fanatics and mighty Bottle Gnomes. Continue to control the board until you can play a Seismic Assualt. At that point you should have enough land that your opponent will concede. If you can, try not to play the multi-lands in the first game, since it will make your opponent even more suprised when he sees the other colors in the second and third game. When I side board, I normally remove the Shocks, Bursts, and Stone Rains (if they are playing mono) for the cards I want to board in. So far this deck can consistantly beat 'Zilla, Oath, Slivers, WW, Suicide Black, 5CX, and Big Blue. Against Sligh, it is a race to see if he can kill me with creatures before I drop the Bride or Disk. I apprieciate any comments you have regarding my deck. -Kevin Williams Team Rapacious "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."
