Subject: DECK - Han's Worst Nightmare - type 2 Date: Thu, 16 Jul 1998 02:47:14 -0500 (CDT) From: "John M. Ewing" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com This is the final refinement (at least thus far) of what began as a colossal 200 card godzilla deck. This is an interesting deck where the idea is to use survival of the fittest as a conveyer belt to the graveyard, then cast a revenant or lhurgoyf. If opponent is using a lot of disenchants, go to plan b using hermit druids to get creatures in the graveyard. Plan b is much messier, slower, but only uses a little bit of mana. Expect to have a large 'goyf or revenant on your 6th or 7th turn, then go for the kill. To the best of my knowledge this is the only deck that utilizes survival of the fittest in this fashion exclusively for revenants and lhurgoyfs. This is NOT a living death deck. Living death in this deck is more like a panic/reset button. This deck has been very competitive in t2 in the planeswalker league and surprisingly does well against red sligh and tradewind riders (riders often get nabbed by carrionettes). White weenie is tough but not impossible. Attack the big combo decks by getting rid of their creatures and/or enchantments. Phyrexian furnace is the best sideboard card available to your opponents in t2 against this particular deck. It is vulnerable to Uktabis. You may want to sb in more uktabis even if you see no artifacts from your opponent. The title comes from the peculiar similarity of names in the Lhurgoyf and Revenant color text. Han's Worst Nightmare - type 2 legal Land 12 Forest 9 Swamp 2 Volrath's Stronghold // recycle creatures as library gets creature // depleted rapidly Black 2 Carrionette // always first to the grave to tie down opponent's // mana and catch 'em offguard 1 Evincar's Justice // sometimes white weenie/suicide black is a // problem 1 Keeper of the Dead // you will have lots of creatures in grave, almost // a royal assassin in this deck 1 Living Death // great reset - sort of like wrath for this deck 1 Recurring Nightmare // helps you get through tough scrapes, recurse the // wall of blossoms 3 Revenant // one of the big weapons 2 Stronghold Taskmaster // stop suicide black 4 Vampiric Tutor // provides more flexibility, there will usually be a // card you really need Green 1 Blossoming Wreath // wow is this a surprise when you gain 10 life on 1 G 3 Emerald Charm // stop MOMA, Equilibrium, Pandemonium, or untap a // 'goyf/revenant 3 Hermit Druid // plan b for getting creatures in graveyard 3 Lhurgoyf // the other big weapon 2 Spike Feeder // just nifty in decks like this and you always need // more life 2 Uktabi Orangutan // stop that snaring bridge/scroll/other artifacts 4 Wall of Blosssoms // early defense and card advantage Sideboard Black 4 Diabolic Edict // for decks with lots of pro black creatures 3 Evincar's Justice // can't target their creatures with carrionettes? // try using this 1 Soulshriek // this can be a big surprise for slower creatureless // decks, its never bad to do 16 damage with a 1/1 1 Stronghold Taskmaster Green 1 Blossoming Wreath // good for direct damage and sligh decks 1 Emerald Charm 2 Tranquility // for stasis and pandemonium and so forth 2 Uktabi Orangutan // artifacts are not likely to be your downfall if // you have 4 of these This deck can be made into a rath cycle too, but I just tried it in a tourney and lost all my revenants to a lobotomy. If you have any questions, comments, or criticisms, please don't hesitate to e-mail me. Some of my other decks are on the Library of Dominia. Sincerely, John M. Ewing ewing@rice.iit.edu
