Subject: "Warped Oath" Update Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1998 23:35:32 EDT From: MambuBaddu@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com His is "Warped Oath" with some improvements since I first introduced the spin off of Aaron Souders' (a cool guy-- {unlike a certain Long character} -- and great player) "Oath of Druids" deck. Anyway, here it is... WARPED OATH: (Designed by Brian Curtis) Red: (7) 3 x Anarchist 4 x Goblin Bombardment Green: (10) 4 x Oath of Druids 3 x Gaea's Blessing 2 x Verdant Touch 1 x Sylvan Library Blue: (21) 4 x Counterspell 4 x Impulse 3 x Time Warp 3 x Propaganda 3 x Forbid 2 x Brainstorm 2 x Mana Leak Artifacts: (2) 2 x Saphire Medallion Lands: (20) 2 x Caldera Lake (U/R) 2 x Skyshroud Forest (U/G) 2 x City of Brass 2 x Undiscovered Paradise 12 x Island Sideboard thoughts: 2 x Verdant Touch 3 x Dissipate 2 x Emerald Charm 2 x Pyroblast 1 x City of Solitude 3 x Gloom 2 x Chill HOW IT WORKS: Use "Brainstorm", "Sylvan Library", and "Impulse" to get "Oath of Druids" and "Goblin Bombardment" in into your hand and in play as soon as possible (Tip: You can also use Intuition to grab lands). Once to have the Oath and Bombardment in play, protect them until your opponent plays a creature that doesn't easily leave play (hint: spike feeders are bad) or use "Verdant Touch" to give your opponent a creature! Then go for "Anarchist" during you upkeep. If you have a "Time Warp" in hand and five untapped lands, play the Warp! Then sack the anarchist (Might attack first) to the Bombardment to do 1 damage to your opponent (repeat until opponent is at 0 life). Combo is also easily acheived if the "Oath of Druids" causes you to put a "Time Warp" into your graveyard. OLD VERSIONS WEAKNESSES: I haven't had the chance to comprehencibly playtest the deck yet, but I know that it will have trouble against any creatureless deck (Solution: Verdant Touch). Another problem lies in the mana intensity of Time Warp (3UU). As is, the deck cannot acheive a lock until at least turn 5. In the current environment, a turn 5 lock seems to be a little slow. The biggest weakness of the deck lies in the reliance on "Oath of Druids." NEW VERSION IMPROVEMENTS: Replaced "Intuition" with 2 x "Brainstorm", 1 x "Sylvan Library" ~ "Brainstorm" proved more usefull, especially when you draw a Gaea's Blessing when you need it in the library! "Sylvan Library" again proved faster and more usefull. Replaced a "Propaganda" with a "Saphire Medallion" and added a second "Saphire Medallion" to make the deck 60 cards (My original version only had 49! [should of had 16, not 15 Islands, oops!] ~ Medallions add speed, it's that simple Replaced 4 Islands with 2 x "Skyshroud Forest" and 2 x "City of Brass" for extra green/red mana. Comments on new version: The new version is significantly more consistant in drawing the 'Oath' before turn 5 and with the addition of the Medallions a turn 4 lock is easily attainable, though not realistic. Holding back and covering the Oath and Warp with counters is the best way to go. Remember, it may always be your turn but your opponent can still cast counters, Disenchants, Emerald charms!, etc...
