Subject: Stompy is dead -- long live Green Control! Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 14:44:30 -0700 From: Raj Seshadri To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Every once in awhile, you are lucky enough to see a revolution. From the tumbling of the Berlin wall and Communism, or the birth of the Internet, ...been there, seen that. Now we're witnessing the evolution of Green. I've long been a fan of underdogs, which explains my green fetish -- I cried along with Jamie Wakefield (although I wasn't ballsy enough to actually take a mono-G deck to a T2). Now, look who's laughing: two of the top eight are SG decks, using the Secret Force (tm) engine. Here's a breakdown of why it's sooo good: (using one of the top-8 SGD decks) Here are some basic deck properties: Creature Control 4 Wall of Roots 4 Wall of Blossoms (cantrip!) 4 Spike Weaver 3 Desert Twister 3 Cursed Scroll * Critters! (best defense is good, nasty critter) Enchantment control 4 Creeping Mold + 4 Emerald Charm (SB) Artifact Control 2 Uktabi Oranguatan +1(SB) 4 Creeping Mold 3 Desert Twister Non-Land Mana (important for worb) 4 Eladamri's Vineyard 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Wall of Roots Roads to Victory 4 Eladamri's Vineyard (mana burn is bwat!) 4 Scrolls 14 Damaging Critters Since this is, at the core an LD deck, here are some other factors: Land Destruction 3 Desert Twister 4 Creeping Mold 4 Wastelands + 4 Winter's Grasp (SB) Mana Dump for Vineyard 4 Scrolls 4 Wildabeests (bounce) 8 Spikes (move spike from critter to itself -- mucho tech) Note: most of the spells in this deck are high-CC, so dump shouldn't be a problem. The deck can also race, if it needs to. Since it can handle almost any permanent, the only seriously nasty things left are damage sorceries (Torch, etc), and for that you have life gain: Life Gain: 4 Spike Feeder conGrats to all those who proved Green at Nationals! next: Oath of Druids (more green!) -R -------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: vcard.vcf Part 1.2 Type: text/x-vcard Encoding: 7bit Description: Card for Raj Seshadri
