Subject: Counter-'Zilla Date: Sat, 11 Jul 1998 12:04:06 +0100 From: "Orlando Richards" To: "The Dojo" After moving to a counter-heavy version of 5CTradewind from the weenie-oriented version I though 'Why not try the same for Godzilla?' So I did, and I've come up with a beast of a deck. Survival of the Fittest is one of the key cards in the deck, it's the main way of filling up your graveyard. And with Sylvan Library it means that you can shuffle your deck every turn and get 3 new cards to choose from. Then you just need to save up some mana, drop a reanimator and back it up with counters. Or for the ultimate beatdown, put all the fat from your deck into the graveyard and then Living Death. It's rather amusing seeing your opponents face as you kill all their creatures and get 4 'Zillas, 2 Shivans, 1 Archangel and a Sliver Queen into play. The monkeys are in primarily for Ensnaring Bridge and Null Brooch, and maybe Disk (but that doesn't hurt too much). Try this deck. It rocks. Fat: 4 Verdant Force 2 Shivan Dragon 1 Sliver Queen 1 Archangel Control: 3 Counterspell 2 Forbid 3 Mana Leak 2 Uktabi Orangutan Card Manipulation: 3 Sylvan Library 3 Survival of the Fittest ********I'll maybe up it to 4 of each of these, because if you get multiples you can just shuffle them back in. 1 Intuition *******Not too sure about this one. I may take it out for another monkey, or something. 1 Merfolk Looter 2 Merfolk Trader Re-animate: 3 Animate Dead 3 Necromancy 2 Miraculous Recovery **********Ace! 2 Living Death Land: 3 Undiscovered Paradise 3 City of Brass 2 Gemstone Mine 2 Reflecting Pool 1 Brushland 2 Underground River 1 Skyshroud Forest 1 Pine Barrens 5 Island 2 Forest 1 Swamp Oops. That totals 61. Oh well. As you may well have guessed the deck still needs tweaking in a number of ways. I didn't put any anti-creature in because I figured that there wasn't much more anti-creature than a Verdant Force. Maybe some Carrionettes? If they're tossed to the Survival they become a valuable resource if you get the mana to fire them off. And you can easily get 4 of them in your graveyard, again with the Survival. Miraculous Recovery is such an excellent card in this deck. The Instant effect is so often unexpected, and is especially useful when trying to evade counters and Edicts and the like. Well, any comments and suggestions would be most appreciated. If anyone does take this kind of deck to a tournament I'd love to hear how it gets on. That's all.
