Subject: Tradewind Prison deck... Date: Thu, 9 Jul 1998 21:34:24 EDT From: DBeishline@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hello Frank! I've been working on this deck for quite some time now. It has changed a lot since I started. It was near compleation, but it wasn't type II and was about 54 cards. The main cards I had were duals. I'm still not quite sure how I will work the land, but am testing it. This is my variant on a Tradewind Prison deck, although when I started, I didn't have any Tradewinds, and it was a 5CG. I really like the way its working out, and I'm posting this to get some feedback for the finishing touches. I really don't quite have a good name yet, so here it is: 4x Tradewind 4x Wall of Blossoms 4x Birds 3x Wall of Roots 3x Armageddon 3x Man~o'~War 2x Sex Monkeys 2x Queer Ranger 2x Mundungu (this is MUCH better than Ertai) 2x Mana Leak 2x Sage Owl (not sure if I like this or Impulse better....this guy helps Tradewind and can attack or block) 2x Maro (I like to have a couple fatties....I see too many deck with nothing bigger than a jellyfish...) 1x Disrupt (a counter and cantrip for one mana....restriction or not!) 1x Remedy (hey, this is a counter too, for damage to me and my good critters) 1x Abeyance (haven't decided weather this is good enough yo be in...testing) 1x Gaea's Blessinng (good against LD and just plain old useful normally) 1x Sylvan Library (I like this more than Impulse) 1x Shard Phoinex (better than Earthquake...Tradewind) 1x Firestorm (may move this to 2) 2x Gemstone Mine 2x Undiscovered 2x Reflecting Pool 1x City 5x Forest(need a few fer Queer) 1x Brushland 1x Adakar Wastes 4x Islands 1x Volrath's Stronghold (hey, where did my cute birdy go? oh, there it is!) 1x Maze of Shadows (replace with quicksand?) Sideboard (as best I can figure): 2x Propaganda 3x Spike Feeder 2x Shadowstorm 1x Furnace 2x Blessing 2x Disenchant 1x Maro 2x Scragnoth The whole thing needs some work, but thats why I'm posting it... The sideboard has cards that help the deck, but arn't always needed. Furnace and Blessing help against LD. Shadowstorm is for shadow obviously(is this needed?). Scragnoth is for heavy blue control. I put in Mundungu because it REALLY helps the deck idea. Overall, I think Mundungu is very underrated. At worst he is a crippled tim, except they lose the life. He replaces a few counters I seem to see lots of in these types of decks. I really am not a big counter fan, but I love Mundungu. Also, he helps in the lock. Sure most of us will conceed once Armageddon is tossed with a Tradewind and critters. Not only does he help protect the combo and slow your opponnet down because they have to wait for another mana, but once the lock is out, it prevents your opponet from doing really anything. Because you have to remember your opponet can still get one mana. Queers are very useful, but I really couldn't find room for more (or many other cards for that matter!). I see most people just take them out, but they are so useful it is amazing. When I could I tried to replace spells with creatures as you most likely noticed. Some are more standard than others, like Monkey for disenchant, Jellyfish for unsummon, Birds and WoR for mana, but I tried to stretch it. Mundungu for counters, Sage Owl for Impulse, and Shard for earthquake. If any of these seem like they just don't workl please let me know because putting an ability into a creatre as disadvantages too. As for being original, the only idea I came up with for myself in this deck type is Mundungu. Even Remedy wasn't my idea, but it is a great one anyhow.
