Subject: Chris Wong's article on US Open decks Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 00:58:37 -0400 (EDT) From: EDGE Collectibles To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Dear Frank & Chris, I just read Chris' excellent overview of the US Open decks and would like to make a correction. The Oath of Druids deck listed in the post was not designed by The Legion. We did playtest a deck with OoD but it was not as effective as the version posted. All credit for the deck in Chris' post should go to Adrian Sullivan and the Cabal Rogue mailing list. We have also playtested a Pandemonium/Dreadnought deck designed by me, and I feel that my version is far better than the one posted in Chris Wong's report (well, in my humble opinion, anyway). Here is my version: 4 12/12 4 Pandemonium 4 Argivian Find 4 Enlightened Tutor 2 Abeyance 4 Impulse 4 Portent 2 Intuition 2 Mana Leak 1 Memory Lapse 3 Power Sink 4 Mana Vault 4 Adarkar Wastes 3 Gemstone Mine 2 Undiscovered Paradise 3 City of Brass 1 Mountain 5 Island 5 Plains The deck absolutely crushes control, thanks to the mana advantage provided by mana vaults. It will usually outrace the weenie rush as well. Its weakest against decks that combine fast creatures with countermagic or lots of enchantment removal (white weenie, fish, etc) - you would rather face more single-minded decks like Sligh or Draw-Go.. but even against its weaker matchups the deck does quite well. Enjoy. - Alex Shvartsman Team "The Legion"
