Subject: Exodus and Mindless Necro Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 21:56:44 -0700 From: "Alan Pies" To: Over the years I have seen many different types of necro from the original with zurans hymns and towers to the newest with steel golemns and bottle gnomes. Though the decks have changed the play stratagy behind them has not changed that much on when to necro, when to disk, etc. But now a card has been released in exodus called Peace of mind.Peace of Mind, 1W, Enchantment. W, discard: Gain 3 life. I as well as many others on the net pointed out that this might be a really good card for necro. but when seen by the more advanced necro players it was shuned. They said that the card wouldnt work, they said why not just load your deck with things like healing salves if you want peace of mind. They said though it would be dumb to put healing salves in your deck it would require another color, it would't give you as much life as drain life could. I think they are totally right. Thats why the deck i have to present to you isn't really a necro deck. 4 Necropotence 3 Peace of mind 3 Keeper of the light (Should be renamed keeper of sligh and SSB cause it keeps them in check) 4 Diabolic Edict 4 Black Knight 4 Knight of stromgald 4 Mangara's Blessing 4 Erg Raiders 10 Swamp 5 Plains 4 Reflecting pool (Even though it is a overated card it can be helpful in decks with color intense cards like necropotence) 3 Salt Flats 4 bottle gnomes 4 Funeral Charm (kills weenies and does many other things) SideBoard 4 Ebony Charm (Against Living death) 4 Allay(only works on enchantments but thats what im worried aboutin combo decks like mesa craft) 4 Abeyance (Counter hammer and things like that) 3 Retribution of the meek (I really hate stompy and big blue) I say that this deck isn't really a necro deck because it doesn't play like one much at all. The first thing that may lead you to the conclusion that i am a scrub is the fact that i have left out the most important card in necro which is the Disk. Like i said before this isn't really a necro deck the disk would only hurt this deck, it would take out the Necro and peace of mind which are the card drawing engine. this deck lets you play with necropotence mindlessly like you always wanted. just play your massive amounts of ceatures insted of playing conservitively like you have to do with real necro, theres no disk to destroy your swarm and if he raths just draw another swarm. NO you can play necro without the years of built up skill you would usually need. Like I said its not a real necro. Why didnt I sideboard cards in against decks like ssb or sligh because this deck kicks there asses without sideboarding. i have so many life gainers in the deck that it slows down both decks a hell of alot. add to that the creature removal sligh and ssb are toast. The game usually ends when i have my card drawing engine of necro and POM set up and then i draw my massive swarm and attack. If your still wondering how the card drawing engine works first i necro for as many cards as i want and then i necro for extra cards so i can discard them for three life a peice to get back all the life i lost when necroing, hell if you want you could instead gains massive amounts of life with the engine. The keepr keps sligh and ssb in check its ability is tap to gain 3 life if you have less life than your opponent. The allays which are dienchants that only work with enchantments and have buy back of 3 are for those damn annoying combo decks that can kill fast like mesacraft. The only decks that beat this deck consistently are counter hammer and combo decks. thats why i have the abayences in the sb. The Retributions are for stompy which you can find alot of where i live, though the deck pretty much kicks all those decks asses. If you think this deck sucks, than put i together in apprentice or workshop and playtest it alot then tell me if it still looses. Oh yeah and tell me if you can find away around counter hammer, even though i heard its fading from the type II tournament scene.
