Subject: Need ideas for concept deck: "Phasing Sands" Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 23:44:29 -0400 From: "Dan Johnson" To: Please post to Deck Workshop: Hi there! I need some input for this concept deck. Though it is by no mean a "tournament quality" deck, it is an interesting (and fun!) concept that I have spent many months developing. I am, unfortunately, at a standstill and need someone else's ideas to better this Type II deck. Thus far, the deck is as follows: LAND: 14 X island 4 X plains 4 X adakar wastes CREATURES: 4 X Sea Scryer 2 X Vodalian Illusionist 3 X Man-'o-War 2 X Tradewind Rider 2 X Dominating Licid ARTIFACTS: 3 X Sands of Time 2 X Sapphire Medallion SPELLS: 4 X Reality Ripple 3 X Sapphire Charm 4 X Impulse 1 X Whispers of the Muse 1 X Capsize 3 X Counterspell 1 X Propaganda 1 X Shimmer 1 X Equipoise 1 X Enlightened Tutor The theme is fairly simple: Sands of Time makes all players skip their untap phase, thus all phased permanents do not phase back in (nor phase out) while it is in play (and untapped). This makes the Vodalian Illusionist, Reality Ripple, Sapphire Charm, Shimmer, and Equipoise quite useful. As this is a blue control deck, the other "lock" is achieved through the "bouncing" of permanents via the Capsize, Tradewind Rider, and Man-o'-War. Being a control-type deck, it must survive long enough, or be fast enough, to make it to the home stretch, usually in the late game. This is where the drawing abilities come into play, as well as the defensive Propaganda. The Licid, through the various "tricks" in timing, is both offensive and defensive. (For timing training, may I suggest the computer version of MTG!!!) Though there is no sideboard per se, other than the obvious "color-hosers", I need to strengthen the standard deck. The problem is that there is no real way to kill my opponent... a major flaw in deck design... =) My opponent has ample time to recover from the various locks I impose. Though I find the games are fun and thought-provoking, I cannot win more than I lose... HELP, PLEASE! You may respond t my email account: johnsondaniel@erols.com Thanks, and may the cards be with you!
