Subject: [The Magic Dojo] Entry for the Deck Workshop Date: Wed, 1 Jul 1998 20:08:54 +0200 From: "ICON Mail" To: Back here in Oostende, with Team BrassMan, we've decided that, for once, actually preparing for a Grand Prix might not be such a bad idea (although we did score three top-64 appearances in the last 3 GP's -- but all can be improved ;). Therefore, the last month we've been busy testing some decks for the Birmingham and Lisbon GP (Rath Cycle Constructed). I've been busy on a theme I've come to enjoy these last months: Slivermania. At it's core it's a blue/green deck with white/red/black splash, which means that all creatures in it are either blue/splash or green/splash (except the Queen of course, but she breaks all the rules ;). Creatures 4 x Crystalline Sliver -- no need to explain that these are key 4 x Muscle Sliver 4 x Winged Sliver -- esp. important in this Wall-environment 3 x Victual Sliver 2 x Hibernation Sliver 1 x Spined Sliver 1 x Sliver Queen Spells 3 x Propaganda -- slow down the weenie hordes, while I get the right Slivers 3 x Disenchant -- still plenty of nasty stuff in Rath, even without the Scroll 2 x Whispers of the Muse 2 x Mana Leak 1 x Dream Cache Mana Sources 4 x Mox Diamond 4 x Harrow 4 x Wasteland 8 x Island 6 x Forest 3 x Plains 1 x Mountain 1 x Swamp Sideboard (only a quick guess) 2 x Tranquility -- combo decks 3 x Chill 2 x Scragnoth 2 x Reaping the Rewards .... (I really need something in here against Living Death decks -- ideas anyone?) Personally, I think the creature base is solid, but the spells may need some work. Also, the sideboard is very incomplete right now. I'm thinking of increasing the number of Dream Caches in the deck, as they're excellent to turn excess land into new spells (and with my number of mana sources, I tend to get some excess land, even though I think I need that many mana sources). The deck can play as a creature rush and sometimes does so (opening crys/muscle/winged), but also has the capacity of getting a slower start and still pulling it out. As I said, it needs a little tweaking to make it completely top-notch though... Well, that's what I'm currently testing. Please do not hesitate to share similar decks, experiences, criticisms or whatever. If it should be shown that the deck is not good enough, I'd just as rather find it out now then at the Grand Prix :) Later some more decks from the BrassMan, Sam Goutsmt Member Team BrassMan DCI Judge level 1 or 2 (depends on when you're reading this ;)
