Subject: Basic Black Date: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 08:50:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Eric R Reitz To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com This is a little deck that has been doing very well in playtesting. It is basically a pure black gun deck. Drop a few effecient creatures and kill anything that gets in thier way. This deck can get some very fast kills due to pox, but it can also quickly and easily control more agressive decks. 4 black knight 4 dauthi slayer 4 fallen askari 3 nekratall 2 barrow ghoul 4 diabolical edict 4 funeral charm 4 choaking sand 4 pox 3 cursed scroll 2 nevinyrral's disk 4 wasteland/quicksand (depends on metagame in your area) 18 swamp sideboard --------- 4 rain of tears 2 nevinyrral's disk 4 bottle gnomes 2 extinction 3 bottomless pit Notes: Knight, slayer, and askari are all very effecient offence due to high power to CC ratio and good avoidance abilities. Erg raiders are an option in scroll heavy areas. Nekratall is good against bounce and is probably the best gun style card in the game right now. Barrow ghoul is a great finisher. Haunting missery can also be used. Edict, and charm are both solid removal. Choaking sands is a must. Early disruption, late game damage, and quicksand removal make it a great card in the deck. Many games have been won with the 2 points it does. Pox, what needs to be said? Scroll, and disk may seem like they dont belong together but they actually do. They are both needed in the deck at different times and a major part of this deck is choosing which one you need at a given time. Use wastelands if 5cX or control are big in your area, and quicksand if single color speed is more prevelant. Rain of tears, and the pits go in against control decks. The extra disks are for enchantment/artifact heavy decks, and scroll decks. The bottle gnomes are for burn and other fast decks. Extinction is for sliver, merfolk, and mogg heavy sligh Of course sideboard may vary depending on your environment. The deck is very balanced between speed, control, and disruption, and after sideboarding it can go pretty heavy into either control or disruption depending on what your opponent is playing. The deck so far has only had problems with WW Not sure how to fix that yet. Any comments or suggestions are welcome at: acvar@gte.net
